As the Premiership’s number one bubbled wrapped goalkeeper, Petr Cech, watched Manchester United win the Premiership, he allowed himself a little smile.

The Czech stopper believes that by winning the Premier League title, Manchester United will not be as motivated as Chelsea in the biuld up to the Champions League Final.

When you know you’ve won something you can relax more because in the back of your mind you have already succeeded.

Maybe they will be more relaxed and this could be the advantage for us because we have to remember the feeling of going so close and ending up so disappointed.

However, I doubt that United will take that angle. From my point of view the Champions League is very much a big deal for United and Sir Alex Ferguson. It is almost like a holy grail. There is also the fact that this years final conincides with the 50th year since the Muncih air disaster. Surely thats motivation enough?

I’d also imagine they don’t want to reach the final and lose to Chelsea FC like last year’s FA Cup Final. As Michael Carrick says:

We know how bad it felt to lose that final and we want to put it right this time.

It is bigger because it is the Champions League but we do not want to experience that losing feeling again.

Both teams are guaranteed to be motivated by various factors, but surely the Champions League trophy is enough?
