Would this Newcastle striker really resort to joining an MLS side?
by Dexter on May 22nd, 2008Ex-Toon coach John Carver is somehow planning to convince Newcastle United’s Shola Ameobi - who has recently been playing for Stoke on loan - to leave England and move to Canada, playing for woeful Toronto FC in the weird and craptastic league that is MLS. Carver, however, remains optimistic about his chances:
“Shola is a kid I brought through the system at Newcastle United, and a kid I know an awful lot about.
”If I can get Shola into this football club he would be a huge, huge asset for us.”
Would Ameobi really go to MLS - three letters guaranteed to make any player’s heart sink…

MLS, craptastic? Hardly, while it is not on par with with the premier league it is far from craptastic, remember their all-stars beat the european all-stars from chelsea a few years back. I would rank that league above scotlands any day of the week, at leats its got parody, unlike the the scottish and english premeir league

My people who have not watch MLS, particulary in the last 2 to 3 years, vastly underestimate the quality of the League. Is it the Prem. Of course not, but the level of play is rapidly improving.
A team like Toronto FC with several Coca Cola and ex Premier League players is only a mid level team in the League.
MLS is getting to the point that you need a player at least a the level of a J P Angel to really make an impact in the League. Bench and role Players from the Prem can add quality to the League, but its becoming clear most players from the Coca Cola would not.

Yeah, right.
Why in the world would a guy “step down” and sign in “the MLS” [sic] when he could sign with the powerhousese that are Norwich or Stoke City. . . gimme a friggin break.
Pompous turd.

Shola should sign up straight away.
He’s so badhe should be pleased to get the chance to get away to a country where they might actually think he’s half decent - until they see him.
Its difficult to impress when your second touch is always a tackle.

have you see the mls pitches
there are portable nets and they cant be bothered covering up the lines from the american football games
shola should leave hes not good enough and should probably look at the championship rather than the mls
