Liverpool tracking 20 million worth of Newcastle and Manchester City stars
by Chris on May 26th, 2008With rumours of a big squad clearout, it’s not hard to believe that there are going to be some fresh faces arriving at Anfield. Sadly, there aren’t many particularly exciting or high-profile names being thrown around just yet.
Hot on the heels of being linked to Wigan’s Luis Valencia, it seems that the tabloids have got Rafa having a bid rejected for James Milner while also pursuing City’s Michael Johnson - who combined would command fees in the 15-20 million range. Considering the brief for Benitez is to win the Premier League, we can’t see either of these lads taking the club to the next level even though they are young and talented.
Since Benitez is trying to clear out the piles and piles of average to slightly-better-than-average players this summer, surely he’d be better off saving up that money and looking for another Torres?

It just seems that buying average players will not get us the title. We need players who have the same quality as Torres, Gerrard, Macherano, Agger. Skyrtel, Carra, Pepe, Alonso, Babbel. That leaves 2 more top notch players and we have a team. A top winger and a top full back would go a long way to bringing home the title. Who they are I’m not sure, may be mancini on the wing and Alves at the back.

I think it’s a case of desk editors at the tabloids looking for possible stories. Over the last two years, Rafa has always played his hands close to the table when its come to transfers.
I expect two major signings before Euro 2008 (to avoid the inflation). One will be a Dutchman, I am sure, and the other Spanish.

robbie keane would be perfect for torres. any player coming in will not want to play second fiddle to torres. keane is a good second striker who already plays the same system at spurs plus bags his share of goals

But Agger and Skrtel were hardly big names or proven before signing and Babel is/was in the same ‘young talented’ category as Milner and Johnson.
Both are young and English, which may prove important if FIFA bring in an English quota.

PLAYERS LIKE TORRES CAN WIN THE TITLE NOT LIKE BENTLEY, BARRY AND VALENCIA!!! WITH THEM 4TH PLACE IS THE MAX THAT WE CAN ACHIEVE!!!

We need Joachin from Valencia on the wing. Richards from Man City and David Villa. The only three players required for a good shot at the League.
Stater of the obvious - May 26th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
i am not sure those players will do us the job in hand, why not buy 2-3 proven players and add less proven players to add up the numbers. And how about those in the reserves? Plessis, Insua, Nemeth to name few.

play nemeth, insua and nabil el zhar for next season~ it will be better if we add Joachin play too from valencia~

James Milner HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA God the bull the press write, it’s as great as Everton outbidding Newcastle for Shearer in 1996

michael johnson would be a great buy, he links play well, gets forward and scores good goals. as for milner, what a waste of money that would be. pennant is better than him and hes clearly not good enough, so why would we want milner, its ludicrous. we dont need wingers like milner, we need players who are more versatile attacking midfielders to fit into the system who can get in the box as well as cross the ball (like babel). david silva should be the priority and i think benitez would be mad if he didnt at least try and get him. valencia are having a clearout, they are only in uefa cup and silva is open to a move away. with benitez’ contacts in spain you would think he would know this and put in an offer before barcelona do. i think he could be bought for around 20 million euros, which is around 16 million pounds. that would be a good deal when you consider hargreaves, carrick, nani and anderson all cost man utd more than that each

I think tha Jamie Bullard would be a fantastic signing for us. Much better than Barry. Also would be in the Shankly philosophy of buying players that still play out of their skin in poor or failing teams.

Why would Milner want to go to a club that gets smaller crowds and is going backwards??
LFC - May 27th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
UTD111… The only thing smaller around here is you
What’s the matter… none of your United friends wanna chat or listen to you, poor little boy. Go away and fiddle with your small thing… BYE

I personally think that Bently will be a quality addition to the team under Benitez guidance. Also a striker to sit just off Torres is much in need. Why has nobody mentioned Santa Cruz or even Berbatov.. we need to be more ambitious. The only way to win this league is through having world class assets. Liverpool have 2… with 4 other quality 1st team players. That I’m afraid, is inadequete. Walk on!!
abrooks - May 27th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
ps… Milner is not good enough for LFC.. Seriously!
UTD111 - May 27th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Oh dear LFC - bit of a tantrum there LOL
Here…..I’ll pick your toys up for you :o)
