Manchester United hoping Ronaldo doesn’t become the next Christopher Columbus

Like a couple of young lads slinging mud at one another, the ongoing Cristiano Ronaldo battle between Manchester United and Real Madrid has been almost comical at times. However, after reading Carlos Queiroz’s recent comments about the current situation, the Portuguese assistant is on the verge of taking this whole ordeal into a level that goes far beyond tabloid fodder.

Portuguese newspaper Jornal do Noticias are reporting that Queiroz believes that Madrid’s courtship goes far deeper than sheer lust for the top footballer in the world.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will never be Spanish, as they will never take Olivenca again,” he said, referring to the small town on the disputed border between the two countries. “They already did the same with Christopher Columbus, and it now seems they want to naturalise Cristiano Ronaldo. Have they already forgotten what we did to them in the past? We will never lose our patience.” (Jornal do Noticias)

Apparently Queiroz believes that Madrid are trying to “naturalise” the Portuguese winger in an attempt to repeat what Spain did to Christopher Columbus decades ago! So if you’re keeping score at home, the saga has now gone from Madrid prying on Man Utd’s prize winger because they wanted to have the best player in the world, to now being all about Madrid trying to naturalise the Portuguese star into a Spanish sensation. Bless!
