Liverpool captain ‘desperate’ for club to make this signing
by stresster on May 31st, 2008Will he or won’t he? That’s what Aston Villa fans are asking about whether Gareth Barry intends to stay at the club this summer or make the journey north to Anfield. Liverpool supporters seem pretty keen to land the England midfielder, none so more than their very own captain Steven Gerrard. The Daily Mirror reports that Stevie G is nothing short of desperate for his club to add one of his great chums to their ranks.
“I know all about Gareth. I’m good friends with him off the pitch and I’m desperate for us to sign him,” Gerrard said. “He’s a good player and would certainly help Liverpool be a better team next season. It’s easy to play with good players. I’ve been asked a lot of questions about Fernando Torres and the simple answer is that the game is a lot easier when you’re playing with quality players. Gareth comes into that category.
“He’s been a fantastic servant to Villa but Gareth is 27 or 28 now and he needs to play Champions League football.”
I’m not sure whether any player ‘needs’ to play Champions League football, although Barry has already made it clear that the time has come to be more ’selfish’ with his ambitions. Can Aston Villa still persuade their captain to stay or is it a losing battle?

Oh man, this is hilarious! Watch as the “I don’t want Barry” Liverpool fans start changing their tune once they’ve heard what the son of God has said! XD
But in all seriousness, this is tapping up of the highest order. We’re fed up of Liverpool having their way with “little” Aston Villa…you push a man too far, sooner or later he’s gonna start pushing back.

I still don’t really want Barry at Liverpool for 15 million pounds, he’s not worth it. Xabi is better than him and will be gutted if he is sold to fund a move for Gareth Barry.

Dude 1983, you push a man too far, sooner or later he’s gonna start pushing back.
What are Villa going to do? What a stupid thing to say.
Players are constantly tapping up other players, it has always happened and always will.
I can’t see this being a signing that will transform us into a much better team, although he has got an edge on Alonso as he is mroe suited to the premiership. But he isn’t as good as Gerrard or Mascherano.
I’d much prefer to see us buy someone like Ribery to play in front of Mascherano and Gerrard and behind Torres. All we would then need is a good right winger and we would much more effective outfit next year.
