Liverpool line up £20m superstar bid: Could this really happen?
by Mr Comfort on May 31st, 2008Well this latest Liverpool target seemed to come from nowhere and may or may not be ‘paper talk’ but if it’s true it would be a very audacious move by Rafa Benitez.
Rafael Benitez is looking to add a different attacking dimension to his Reds side for the new season, and Ribery has proven himself to be one of the most talented players in Europe over the past few seasons.
Reports in Germany claim the Anfield club are willing to pay Bayern Munich a fee of £20million for the 25-year-old, who only moved from Marseille last summer for a fee in the region of £17million. (Fansfc)
Having helped Bayern Munich to the double in his first season at the club, it would seem that the French international would have little reason to leave Bavaria. There is no doubt that the former Marseille man has a great deal of talent and that arguably he is just the kind of player that Liverpool could do with, but could this really happen? Do Liverpool fans think that Benitez is after the 25 year old and do Anfield regulars feel that the Spaniard could persuade Ribery to join the club if indeed a bid was made?

Yes i agree, if this is a real prospect then great, he would be fantastic. The question is do we have more to offer than Bayern Munich and i honestly feel we do!

Ribery is exactly the type of player Benitez should spend all his summer cash on. A world class attacker who will form a devastating trio with Torres and Gerrard and scare Pemiership defences to death. Signing him would be a real step forward and prove Benitez accepts we need more quality rather than quantity. Yes, it might take all his summer budget but it’s worth it.
Ribery would add more to the team than Pennant, Benayoun and Kuyt put together.
LFC KINGS OF EURO - May 31st, 2008 at 5:58 pm
he would b fab.but it would be a huge suprize to us fans because we dont know who is rafa really after and does he have the backing from the board i hope the americans back him for whoever he goes for.

As much as I would love Ribery joining Liverpool, I can’t see it happening. He’s only been there for a year and next year he’ll be Champions League football with a top team in Europe. Maybe in a few years, but not this soon. Plus we only offered 20M when Bayern bought him for 17M last season, if we do really want him to come, we’re gonna need to offer much more than that.

Nobody expects a first offer to be final, there is always negotiations. The real question is… Do Liverpool have the money to keep playing with the big boys or not?
Then we would all know what is a wild rumor and what is in the possible range.
b connolly - May 31st, 2008 at 6:46 pm
we should have got him last year!! .. got no chance now, its the same as someone trying to buy torres off us for a couple of million more than we paid for him last year… in your dreams.

There’s no point in getting excited, its just a rumour, like virtually every bit of news we read on the internet or in papers. It’s started by blogs, newspapers, and forums. So take everything with a tanker full of salt. When you actually hear it from one of the horses mouths, be it our club, their club, or the player… then you can start to get excited.
I honestly can’t see it happening, although he would be a good signing.

Robbie - May 31st, 2008 at 9:05 pm

dan - May 31st, 2008 at 9:46 pm
I think it can happen, I rekon we can get ribery for £20 plus kuyt. Then we would get him. He would be te one to complete us.
cam - May 31st, 2008 at 11:13 pm
i would absolutely luv him at lfc, but i just cant see bayern lettin him go for 20, like we want david villa for 25 so that would rate ribery at about 35 so nooooooooo bingo
thomas - June 1st, 2008 at 3:05 am
Yah RIbery can wear the number 7 shirt of LFC… vacant out by kewell.
If brought Ribery, all of our striker will become much more efficient i reckon.
hosepipe - June 1st, 2008 at 8:09 am
this would be an amazing buy,, add villa richards barry dossena,, degen for the bench and maybe downing or bentley and we’ll be there
hosepipe - June 1st, 2008 at 8:21 am
although we’d need 120+million for these
allahs boot - June 1st, 2008 at 8:33 am
Quaresma over Ribery anyday.Ribery should have been a signing last season. But we have been dealt Benayoun and Babel instead, but now is the time for quality over quantity if we want to win the title.
AussieRed - June 1st, 2008 at 10:38 am
If Riera is worth 19mil, than Ribery is worth 40mil, but this is just the type of thing Rafa does. I mean look at Torres and Babel last season. How many people had an inkling that those signings were on the cards? I honestly believe he has a big named player lined up that is already signed if not to be signed in the next few weeks. That’s the way Rafa works, holds his cards close to his chest. If we do get Barry, I highly doubt he will be our biggest name signing for this transfer period.
Mali - June 1st, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Ribery is a quality player, but I just feel we should get Ricardo Quaresma instead. This guy could really take us onto the next level in terms of challenging for the EPL titile…. And he does want 2 leave Porto….
Gene Quagmire - June 1st, 2008 at 2:31 pm
No way in hell we’re letting him go for that little. It would have to be a fantastically huge offer.
elninoT9 - June 1st, 2008 at 4:05 pm
r u people serious??? quersma over ribery??? wat has quersma done to help portugal??? ribery was one of the reasons france were in the world cup final, hes one of the best wingers in the world and u lot wud rather hav quersma???? yea right, bring on ribery, he cud make us serious title contenders and add some more attacking flair and speed to the team!!!
QUERSMA???? WHO DA FUCK IS HE
luke keogh - June 1st, 2008 at 4:08 pm
RIBERY yes it would be great for us with all this with riera i have seen him play in la liga from what i see he avaerage we wont win the legaue with averge players will we?
Matt - June 1st, 2008 at 9:24 pm
I agree ribery over quaresma. Rafa prob does wants ribery. Rafa likes hard workers in his team like mascherano, kuyt, gerrard etc.
marty - June 2nd, 2008 at 3:13 am
not gonna happen. liverpool wont sign ribery or queresma. dont u think if ribery was going for 20 million that chelsea would have got him by now.
daboy - June 2nd, 2008 at 6:52 am
noooo and bet ya they dont get villa silva rafinha ramsay riera hamsik or johnson from man city the owners are full of crap.
bec - June 2nd, 2008 at 11:51 am
to be honest, i dont think, he is star quality, or even good enough for liverpool, or the premier league, then youv’ve got ricardo quaresma, who is for sure one of the best wingers in the world, gives cristiano ronaldo a run for his money,
fauz - June 3rd, 2008 at 10:38 am
Get Henry & Ribery.
