Spurs to bid for £14m Berbatov replacement: A very average striker!
by Mr Comfort on May 31st, 2008A week doesn’t go by without Ramos supposedly lining up a replacement for the seemingly exit bound Dimitar Berbatov, perhaps most worryingly is the fact that most of these ‘targets’ are nowhere near as good as the Bulgarian (with the exception of the rather hopeful attempts to sign Samuel Eto’o). This latest bit of tabloid speculation involves a very average signing indeed!
Spurs boss Juande Ramos has put £14m rated Benfica striker Oscar Cardozo at the top of his hit-list of replacements for Dimitar Berbatov. (Daily Mirror)
The lanky 25 year old may have had a decent strike rate in his first season at Benfica, but remember Helder Postiga! He too had a great record when he was at Porto before he left for WHL (and he wasn’t the best signing in the world was he!). I do not rate the Portuguese league that highly and therefore success at this level has to be questioned. Also the fee for the Paraguayan seems incredibly high and quite frankly he just doesn’t seem to be in the same league as Berbs and to me doesn’t seem to be good enough a striker for a Tottenham side looking to push on for a top four place. What do Spurs fans think about this latest striker linked with a move to WHL?

Couldn’t agree more, this guy ain’t no better than Bent!
elio - May 31st, 2008 at 4:03 pm
just judging by the article, and the 1 comment, that you guys are basing that opinion on a youtube clip or something, right?
ok.. heres the words of someone who actually watches football beyond these shores (yes, amazing, i know)….
not only from seeing him at benfica, but also having seen him at newells as i am a keen follower of argentine football, without having the flair and magic of berbatov, he scores a bagful of goals, and can score any type of goal. he is strong, fast, has a decent touch, wins every header and can score with either foot.
Now to me that sounds like a good number 9
of course i would rather keep berba, but long before we were even linked to this guy i had him earmarked as a forward we should be looking at. you know why? because unlike u numpties, i actually watch non premiership football
Anonymous - May 31st, 2008 at 4:04 pm
hes got a good left foot
pheg - May 31st, 2008 at 4:45 pm
he has a brilliant left peg and is good in the air - but i do agree that he is no better than darren - think it would be a good idea to get a squad forward who is around 20 for a couple of million. Still no official talkabou beba! my only reservation is that he didnt want to be here at the end of the season - his body language was disgracful at times! In Juande i trust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
google cardozo and there is a 5min clip - the range of goals scored is pretty impressive!
cant wait for next season
amaty - May 31st, 2008 at 4:48 pm
have you seen him on you tube he is brilliant he is much better than bent and why haven t we signed dunne or dos santos yet we will lose them if we dont hurr y does any one no if we will sign these players
thank u
yesyes - May 31st, 2008 at 4:54 pm
why always place so much pressure on spurs ,top four ,top four. We do this every season ,success take time it needs cooperation from chairman and faith from the fans .It would be good but if not first win the uefa , the the season after once everyones gelled a few more signings. BOOM, We ve got an amazing management team bought arguably the best playmaker of his generation (mordic). But he also needs time .But allot of our supporters dont know shit. by the way Darren Bent s times gonna come. Plus we should check out Daniel Pablo Osvaldo from Fiorentina.
amaty - May 31st, 2008 at 4:58 pm
can u answer my question
Mike - May 31st, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Dont know him to be honest, but my choice of striker this summer is Diego Milito. He would fit perfectly with our style of play. He works hard for a striker, drops off to get involved with play and has great movement off the ball. More importantly though, he is a great finisher. I would like him signed regardless of whether we keep Berbatov. If we sell Bent then how about Osvaldo aswell?
Brooklyn Hotspur - May 31st, 2008 at 5:11 pm
The reality is that the press and websites have NO IDEA who Spurs are going to buy this summer. Tottenham may have purchased a few questionable players over the last few seasons and definitely paid over the odds on several but they NEVER talk about who they want to or are going to buy.
Woodgate and Modric are recent examples of people knowing as the transfer is going through. Hutton is a recent exception but only because Rangers made the story public after accepting the bid.
Ultimately those chip wrapper rags are trying to link every Spanish, South American, Seville, Barcelona or available player with Spurs. Just so they can go “we were the first to tell you”.
You know it’s bad when Sky Sports buy into it and start proclaiming signings are on the verge of completion. Eto’o and Gio step forward and take a bow!
I’m not going to stress and trust in Ramos and the Board to pick the right players at the right price which since the new managers arrival seems to be happening more frequently!
COYS!!

You tit!!!
Portuguese league is crap?
I suppose Ronldo, Nani, Anderson, Figo, Carvallho and Bosingwa are crap too?
You cretin!

Once again comments that have no foundation whatsoever…for starters Postiga has never scored over 15 goals a season in his life, before he came to spurs he had one good season scoring 13 goals which wasnt really that promising!! Also saying the portugese league success level has to be questioned is again an invalid comment seen as how Cristano Ronaldo played in the Potugese league and hadnt scored more than 5 goals a season before going to Man U….
Dont right off Cardoza before he’s even had a chance, he could go to a club and be a sensation, he’s certainly got the attributes, and to compare him to Bent is just stupid!! No he isnt the most established but neither was Ditmar..No one knew Berbatov would be the sensation that he has now become, as much as we hoped he would… Average is harsh…I feel with the creativeness from the midfield there are a few strikers out there that would get 20 odd goals with Cardoza maybe being one of them…probably just speculation anyway!!
yid - May 31st, 2008 at 5:38 pm
ronaldo is top class, nani is average as far as man unt go, anderson same, figo hardly played there and worked mainly in spain, carvalio plays for scummy chelsea, bosingwa isnt exactly pele either. postiga was the best thing since sliced bread in portugal, but from his first kick at the lane we and everyone else knew he was out of his depth. dont want another one. berba is quality but i cant handle his attitude if he dont wanna be here we should cash in for sure, then execute him!! :0) id love to sign dunne though.
good luck ramos, finding a replacement for berba is gonna be really hard rather you than me, but it has to be done i think!
adam - May 31st, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Modric is superb
Paul - May 31st, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Has anyone considered Santa Cruz at Blackburn? He is a good centre forward who will return 20+ goals a season. He also has Premier League experience and so would not need time to adjust. If we are going to achieve this 4th spot, we need to hit the ground running come the start of the new campaign.
C0YS - May 31st, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Judging by his stature, and his speed and strenth I would say he ids nothing like postega but will suit the PL, but I belive you may see him start 4th choice

His you Tube clip is decent.Love his penalty shots. And lets face it, which one of you experts knew how good Berba was when we bought him? I’m not saying this guy is great but don’t be so fast in judging people.

Telling it how it is - June 1st, 2008 at 10:08 am
The Prem League is good England breezed through the Euro qualifiers like a hot knife through butter.
Yeah right!
England’s failure to qualify come as no surprise if you just compare the quality of our footballing academies to the Continent, in this case Portugal, they just blow us out the water with their system. So much so, Damien Comolli would back me up on that. Just look up ‘Damien Comolli’ on YouTube and you’ll see what I mean.
amin - June 1st, 2008 at 11:54 am
all im gonna say is ramos has an amzing track record for turning strikers and showing their full potential. look at kanoute and fabiano……..they werent exactly prolific before they went to sevilla
I like berba - June 1st, 2008 at 12:01 pm
Berba was the joint topscorer along with klose in the german bundesliga before he arrived at spurs. He’s got that good goal scoring record since he started professional football.
