West Ham and Newcastle battle for £10m Liverpool flop: Maybe he’s got better?

It’s fair to say that Liverpool fans never got to the best of French international striker Djibril Cissé, whether this was due to injury or poor form either way the Marseille man certainly didn’t live up to his 14m fee. Maybe now he can show the Premier League just what they were missing?

£10m rated Djbril Cisse could return to the Premier League after being left out of France’s Euro 2008 squad. Newcastle, Blackburn and West Ham are in the running. (Sunday Express)

Cisse has found his feet at the Stade Vélodrome and finished the season as joint third top scorer in Ligue 1. West Ham need a striker who can support Dean Ashton, preferably one who can stay fit throughout the season. Kevin Keegan could also do with a consistent finisher so both could do well with the 27 year old, but will he give up Champions League football (Marseille are after all in the qualifying rounds of the tournament) for another crack at the Premier League? How would West Ham and Newcastle feel about this possible signing? Can he still cut it in the English top tier?
