Sven leaves Manchester City - who should replace him?
by stresster on June 2nd, 2008Or should that be who will replace him? After all, it appears that Mark Hughes is nailed-on for the position, with Blackburn reluctantly allowing their manager to hold talks at Eastlands. The BBC report that the Swede and Manchester City have finally parted ways after just one full season, are we all in agreement that Eriksson has been treated pretty poorly by Thaksin Shinawatra and his cronies?
BBC Sport revealed in April that Eriksson was no longer wanted by owner Thaksin Shinawatra, despite the Swede guiding City to a Uefa Cup place.
“I have enjoyed my time at Manchester City very much and I would like to thank the fans, players and staff for their amazing support,” said Eriksson.
While it’s a little rich to suggest Sven ‘guided’ them to a UEFA Cup place (they only got that through a fair play award), he did mastermind home and away victories over Manchester United, as well as a top-half finish in the Premier League. Will the ’squad that Sven built’ now disintegrate and be replaced by a Mark Hughes outfit instead?

Mancini for me…
for me hughes wont buy top quality players and if he goes abroad he’d rather sign the 10 goal a season stricker for £2mil rather than a 20+ stricker a season for £15mil

Demo that is a touch harsh - Hughes has built a great team at Blackburn and made some exceptional buys (Santa Cruz, Pedersen et al) I can’t believe Thaksin has let Sven go despite the success he has had - absolute lunacy and to be honest that would put most people off taking the job
I think the best thing for City would be if Thaksin packed up his shit and found another club to play with - he certainly doesn’t understand the mistake he has made, Sven is a great manager and made man City a team that were exciting to watch and successful again, I don’t support them but i think Sven going is the worst thng to happen to the blues in a long time.

Disgusted by Thaksin, how can he even consider replacing the legend that is SGE with an ex dirty red scumbag like Hughes!
Im an 18 year season ticket holder and the football iv seen this season at Eastlands is the BEST iv seen city play, EVER!
we do the double over the scum, we gain the top 10 placed SGE promised and even ended up with a back door pass to Europe, the fans have screamed for him to stay and have voiced their concerns to a deaf Thaksin, if he expects Hughes can come and do better in the same time SGE was given then i know for a fact Thaksin will be disappointed so this time next season we’re gonna be doing this all over again!
if i hadnt already paid for my season ticket i think i would be seriously considering not renewing, the way Sven has been treated is disgusting and him leaving is (as Ray says) the worst thing that could happen to City.
Thaksin better be ready with that big fat cheque book and a show of dedication to the club if we’re to take him seriously this season!
Just a good job SGE isnt a dope dealer, Thaksin would have had him killed by now!
