Fulham chase Championship keeper to shore up defensive miscues: Is this a joke?
by offsidetrap on June 4th, 2008After conceding a ‘mere’ 60 goals this past season and staying up by way of goal differential, you’d think Fulham would have their wits about them to go out and bring in some defensive quality this summer. After all, the club owes it to their supporters after taking them on a near heart attack experience this past season.
Well apparently the club doesn’t care much about how the supporters feel. The Guardian is reporting that Fulham are keen to bring current Derby keeper Roy Carroll and his brilliant stopping skills to Craven Cottage next season.
Fulham are so determined to avoid a relegation battle next season that they’re to splash out on … Derby goalkeeper Roy Carroll. (The Guardian)
If you’ll recall, Carroll and his Derby mates gave up a Premiership-worst 89 goals last season, making them the eternal laughing-stock of the EPL.
So I guess if you’re Fulham, giving up 89 goals is more impressive than conceding 60? It makes no sense, but then again, what does make sense when it comes to Fulham recently?
So what’s your take Fulham fans? Is Carroll worth your time? Or would you rather see the club go out and actually grab some defensive quality?

well if we sign him he won’t be first choice will he since we’ve already signed two keepers. And do you not perhaps think caroll conceded that many goals because he had the worst defence in the history of the premiership? What do I think… I think your talking out your arse.

This is obvious bull! We have already signed two keepers. Caroll is a good keeper, he was at Derby for only half the season, he had a terrible defence infront of him and he did make some fantastic saves! Your an idiot trying to pin all of the goals on him. With regards to our defence, yes our defence was shite, however when hodgson came in he has improved it! Hangeland is probably going to be our captain next season. We will probably need a new right back as baird is usless, volz is now a midfielder and Stalteri has gone back to spurs. Hughes could fill in at right back as he doesn’t quite have the height to be in the centre but is a very good defender.
