Liverpool and Villa set for player swap - who will benefit most?

Gareth Barry has said that he’s ambitious. He’s also claimed that he wants to play Champions League football, something that ain’t happening in a hurry at Aston Villa. Therefore, it appears that all roads lead to Liverpool for the midfielder, although the Midlands club do have a condition, according to the Daily Mirror.
Martin O’Neill wants £8million AND Peter Crouch for Gareth Barry.
That is what the Aston Villa manager will tell Liverpool when they make their improved offer for the England midfield star.
Anfield gaffer Rafa Benitez is poised to make a new bid for Barry after O’Neill dismissed his opening £10million offer, made up of cash and players.
Now this will be interesting, especially as Liverpool value Crouch at around £15million, roughly the same price tag that Villa have slapped on Barry’s head. Do the Reds want the England midfielder badly enough to lob Crouch and a load of cash in Martin O’Neill’s direction? It’s clear that the lanky striker is surplus to requirements at Anfield, but we all know how stubborn Rafael Benitez can be when it comes to transfer fees.

i feel the same way mate. what furiates me is the fact that martin o’neil is conning us and rafa is falling right into his trap !!! i know that we will complete this signing but if gareth is priced at 15 mill , we should first sell crouch to pompey for the 10 mill harry redknap is willing to offer.or maybe even try to push it up to 11 mill. another option would be to wait until we receive offers from clubs such as newcastle. then we should use that money to buy gareth for that 15 mill price tag. but what martin o’neil is asking for is way too much !!! … in Rafa we trust !!! lol.

you guys are jokers! how is MON conning anyone?! villa have a player that they do NOT want to sell! why should they sell him at a knock down price? look at how much utd paid for carrick and hargreaves..players that barry is AHEAD OF in the england team then consider his true value. you guys just don’t realise how good he is because he isn’t at one of the top 4 teams! 15m is not enough, 8m and crouch would do, but remember at the end of the day all villa fans agree with MON….we DO NOT WANT TO SELL BARRY!

I don’t think barry will even end up at liverpool he want’s to play champions league for a few years not just next before villa or spurs displace liverpool from 4. He’s more likely to go chelsea were he’s got it for more than next year. And crouch is worth realisically 8-10 million and barry’s about 16-18 so the deals about right for barry being crouch plus 8m. Carrick and hargreaves went united for that and there not even in the england team or captained it ever!

PETER CROUCH IS NOT WORTH £15M!!!
MONs demands are perfectly legitimate. Crouch AT MOST is worth £10m - so that would value Barry at £18m. If Carrick is worth £16m, Barry is worth £18m. End of.
However personally I’m not keen on it. I would rather keep Barry than get Crouch and £8m. I’ve never really rated Crouch and he didn’t perform when he was at Villa before. He’s improved as a player, granted, but there’s something about him I just don’t like!
Saying that, Liverpool aren’t going to be able to pay the straight £16m-£20m cash I’d really like so if Barry 100% wants to leave Villa I think cash+Crouch would be an ok deal.

O’neil is a bit unfair with these transfers…he complains about Carson’s 10million price, he says he wants Carson…they made the 10million transfer fee req. with Rafa before the loan a year ago…and now he moans and wants to lower…it’s not the marketplace dammit…this is something a bit more serious than buying the materials for Sunday’s “Ham and Eggs”. And he complains about Crouch’s price…about 7 clubs want to take Crouch this summer and they are all sure that Crouch could be a shining star of a non-CL team where he can play more often, just look at his national team caps and goals…impressive and surely worths more than 8-10 millions….O’neil is a good manager but very unfair imo

First and Foremost, Villa do not need the cash, hence why we have no sponser this season and instead we are putting a logo of our hospice nearby, which will cost us around 10m sponser wise.
Liverpool are in debt and it’s borrowed money you have been using to buy the likes of Torres, Babel etc, and Villa have a Billionaire that is giving MON as much money as he wants.
We don’t need cash but we need players, what the use of 15m if we can’t attract the players ???
Also bare in mind we brought Crouch for 4.5Mill and we then sold him for 2.5m so paying 15m for a striker that only warms the bench up and paying over 10m more than we brought him when he was 21 not 27 would be quite embrassing.
To be honest if Barry wanted to go, then i’d be happy to take Crouch and Carson for him, and first option to by Riise, then just by Huddlestone from Spurs for 7m to cover Barry’s place, he is only 21 as well.

Something seems to have been overlooked! Crouch is worth 15 million??????? Barry only 8???????? The problem is the Liverpudlans believe that’s a fair valuation! In actual fact Barry is worth around 13 mill, Crouch around 5, so your getting Barry for 18 mill. Everyones happy!

god i wish this would get sorted one way or the other. would prefer pennant plus cash to crouchy though hes a good player but we already have carew. An 8m + crouch = Barry offer does sound right actually.Peter Crouch is noway close a great forward or as Rafa has put him around 15m which is totally ridiculous.
As many people have already suggested,Crouch should be transferred to Pompey and then the cash created should be used to get Barry,who would be around 15-17m gap and not more..
Also Liverpool shouldn’t sell their players to teams who can actually contest for their positions in the domestic league as Villa does indeed have the capabilities of achieving that.

You’re dillusional mate. Who are the best team in Europe right now? Liverpool. Spurs didn’t even make it into the top half of the table. Villa made it into top 6, but were still miles away from the top 4. And Liverpool were only 11 pts of Man Utd and actually lost less games than Man Utd. Man Utd lost 4 games, Liverpool lost 3. The team that scored the most goals throughout the season? Liverpool with 119. He wouldn’t go to Chelsea cause they don’t even have a manager and when they do get a manager, he may not even want to play Barry. Rafa obviously rates him, plus he is good mates with Stevie. All signs point to Liverpool. As to rating Barry at 23mil, this just goes to show how overpriced English players are. When Rafa has valued Xabi, who has a 4 years left on his contract at 16mil, and Xabi is a much better player than Barry. Xabi is one of if not the best passers in the game. You ask why would Barry want to leave Villa for Liverpool. Well not taking all the rest into account, there is one question. How many world class players are at Villa? None. How many world class players are at Liverpool. Well, let me think, Torres, Gerrard, Mascherano, Reina, plus players who are almost there, Xabi, Agger, Skrtel, Babel. Liverpool have been more proactive in the transfer market too, looking to bring in world class players like Ricardo Queresma and Franck Ribery, maybe even David Villa. Plus there are so many prmosing youth players at Liverpool. Players like Insua, Plessis, Nemeth, Pacheco, Bruna. And it shows that the Liverpool reserve team who had an average age of 20 beat the Aston Villa reserves who fielded a bunch of senior players. Future looks very bright at Liverpool and Barry wants to be part of that future.

AussieRed, u r kidding yourself mate. liverpool may have consistently done well in Europe but have not been able to sustain it at the Premier League level. How many years in a row have liverpool finished either 4th or 5th??? this says to me that even thoughg you splash out the cash on players like Torres, Babel and Mascherano, and even though individually those players have accomplished things, what have you guys accomplished as a team?? not a hell of a lot.
Villa on the other hand have jumped 10 places in 2 seasons, have bought brilliantly under martin oneill, even if those players are not as world class as liverpools buys. As well as this we have the best young players in the country in our squad. Davies, Agbonlahor, Young, Gardner. This tells me one thing. Villa are progressing, Liverpool have got to a stage where they are lost, after trying to bring in the big names but not breaking the top 3.
All i can say is, with or without gareth barry, or peter crouch for that matter, liverpool better start watching out because villa are coming for them. And we only need 5-6 smart buys to knock you guys outta that top 4 for good!

Im a blues fan. Firstly the Barry deal is correct at 8m plus Crouch. Barry is not only an England regular but instrumental in the villa team which even without the fact he’s an awesome player, drives up the price. I hate the villa but even i know how good he is.

If the Spanish waiter wants him, the Spanish waiter needs to be prepared to pay through the nose for him. IF and believe it or not it is still only an IF, MON is forced to sell a player who he doesn’t want to sell and who is still under contract to Villa then whoever buys him will have to do so on O’Neill’s terms not their own.
Whether anybody likes it or not Villa hold all the cards here not the hub cap pinchers, so you’re going to have to dig deep if you want him.

15 million is the price that benitez put on crouch’s head. no-one else values him at that much. He is probably worth 10 million, therefore, you are getting barry for 18 million which is equal to how much michael carrick went for, frank lampard would go for and owen hargreaves went for (17 million).

barry is not in the champions league (or will ever be if he stays at villa) therefore not worth over 20 million, however he is his teams captain and an england regular plus villa don’t want to sell the guy so hes worth about 16m.
crouch is not as good a player as barry, liverpool do want to sell him but he is a champions league player and a regular england player he also scores a decent amount of goals, he’s worth about 10m
8m plus crouch is slightly too high but just tweeked slightly possibly crouch and 6m that would be reasonable.
