Liverpool midfielder on his way out, but for how much? Juve won’t budge!
by offsidetrap on June 5th, 2008From the looks of it, Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is ready to walk away from the Merseyside club after coming to terms on a weekly salary with Juventus.
The Sun reports that Alonso and Juve have agreed on a deal that would pay him £70,000-a-week, however any possible deal that could be concluded quickly is being hampered by Liverpool’s inability to part with Alonso for anything less than £16m.
Juventus have agreed terms with Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso but have to agree a fee with the Reds, who want £16m compared to the Italian club’s £14.5m offer. (The Sun)
Do you sense a common theme here? First Rafa couldn’t part with Scott Carson for anything less than £10, and now he won’t let go of Alonso for £14.5m. I understand the need to be a shrewd businessman, but if Rafa is planning on buying any big names this summer, then he’s going to have to make some compromises when it comes to moving some of his bigger name players.
Do Liverpool supporters think Rafa is correct in telling Juve to pay £16m or leave? Or do you think it’s time the ‘goateed-one’ got going on his transfer plans and sold Alonso for £14.5m?

alonso is worth 16mil, if barry is worth 15mil. he is a class player and they know it.

i think rafa is most definately right in telling them to pay 16 mill. alonso is a proved superstar all over the world and his right foot alone is worth more than any other juventus midfielder. however i will feel sad in parting with alonso as he has been one of my favourite players.

Benitez won’t sell Alonso for less than he’ll have to pay for Barry.
I reckon he’s aiming to bring in Dossena, Barry and Degen for the same as he gets for Riise, Alonso and Finnan.

lets keep him, Hargreaves, anderson, nani all £17m . Alonso is better than them. £14.5m is too cheap. Raffa did well buying him for £10m but it doesnt mean he has to give him away now.

so let me get this straight… rafa rates alonso at 16million but he wont pay 15million for Barry?
and he is willing to let alonso go and sign barry?
so is he purposefully trying to make his team weaker for next season?

If I can remember it correctly we’ve paid 10.5m upfront and a further 1.5 (or something around that figure) after he had played a certain number of games so he cost us 12m or more. Surely his reputation has risen during his time at Anfield so event at 16m he’s still a bargain. Would it be the other way round the selling club would ask for 18m or more.
Same goes for Crouch. We’ve paid 7m to a second tier club so how can anyone complain that Rafa values him at 15m now that he is at a top four club?
The only pattern I can figure out is that we are asked to pay top dollar but whenever we sell it should be at half-price or something. Give me a break. Liverpool do not have the funds of Man Who, Chelsick or Man City.
Furthermore the Pound is pretty cheap now. When Man Who bought all those midfielders for 17m that was 25m Euros. Today 17m is worth 21.5m Euros so Juve should not complain as 16m is less than 14.5m was a year ago so at 16m Xabi is already a bargain. Taking all this into account LFC will only gain about 2m Euros compared to when we bought the lad.

What? Other clubs can hold on to their price while we can’t? Non-sense. He is worth every 16mil pound. Remember we will be short if Barry doesn’t come and Lucas goes to Olympics. So we don’t need to sell.

Lets not get to deep into stuff we know little about ……… xabi is a great player but i do feel the prem takes a little of his quality away as he is not the quickest … i understand why rafa wants barry, he is more a prem player, were as xabi is a proper european player (a little more time on the ball) …… both great players but not the same, so difficult to suggest either is worth more, for me, xabi with quicker feet and he would be worth 25m ……
lets just hope rafa can get past all the negative comments between him and o’neill and get this done asap …… as Im getting a little tired of this one and its dragging ….. cmon Rafa!!!

Too overpriced! It’s unbelievable!
14.5 million is still a lot of money. Rafa has a knack for selling overpriced players. Alonso is a brilliant player, but other than his brilliant passes, he isn’t really that well-known.
With 16 million Juve might as well buy Lampard or a player who’s worth the money! I admire Alonso very much and I think he’s a great player, but still too overpriced.
FORZA JUVE.

first mistake let momo sissoko go, and second mistake if RAFA let alonso go, just keep him, what ever price …..Trust me…. xabi… is close to his peak at next season and coming years.
