Arsenal want £15m ‘superstar’ defender: Not really Arsene’s style of player!

Arsene Wenger is a manager supposedly targeting just about every footballer on the planet, the latest player on his reported wish-list is a centre back who has just missed out on a place at Euro 2008.

Arsenal Football Club hope to bolster their defence with a Serie A superstar.
Arsene Wenger has been given a healthy transfer kitty to boost the Gunners chances of ending a three-year trophy drought next season, and he hopes to bolster in all areas.

This includes the centre of the defence where last season William Gallas and Kolo Toure paired up, but their partnership will be under serious threat if Wenger lures Roma’s Phillipe Mexes to the Emirates Stadium. (fansfc.com)

£15m-rated Mexes has always look a little suspect to me, a bumbling style centre-back who never looks that assured on the ball. Very good in the air but, in so many ways, not the kind of player I would expect Wenger to be interested in. The 26-year-old is good but not great and not worth that kind of money in my opinion. What do Gunners fans think?
