Liverpool to break record for £31m man: What a signing this would be!

Could it be true? Valencia have basically admitted that they will listen to offers for members of their squad, with a much sought after striker being made available for a very large fee indeed!

It is generally assumed that at least one of Valencia’s ‘big name’ players will be sold off over the summer in order to ease their financial difficulties and it seems as if that player could be Villa.

They have not officially transfer-listed the striker, but Valencia are ready to listen to offers, although their €40million (£31m) request may be a little unrealistic at this point in time.

A number of clubs are reported to be preparing bids in the region of €25million for Villa, but this is not a figure at which Valencia would be willing to part company with ‘el Guaje’. (goal.com)

Liverpool, whose manager Rafael Benitez is desperate to generate funds to compete with the likes of Man United, are looking to sell both Peter Crouch and Andrei Voronin, along with Jermaine Pennant, Scott Carson, Steve Finnan and John Arne Riise, while Harry Kewell will be released. (Independent)

Benitez can probably see just how much of an impact a player like Villa could make at Anfield and he does have a raft of players he could let go in pursuit of funds for such a deal, the question is will he make the bid? The La Liga club may well take less for the Spanish international and Rafa is of course also tailing Gareth Barry amongst others. Do Liverpool fans want to see a Villa-Torres partnership at the club, if so how much should the club pay for him?
