Chelsea ace could hold the keys to £100m striker bonanza: Could it get any more ridiculous?

There’s no doubt that Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is an attention whore. Whether it’s flailing on the pitch because the wind blew him over, or because he’s not getting enough “money love” from Roman, the Ivory Coast striker has to be in the spotlight.

Well, judging from the report coming from the Daily Mirror, Drogba looks to be getting his wish, as it appears that he holds the key to some of the biggest striker swaps in the world.

Drogba’s uncertain future has also put the brakes on moves involving Dimitar Berbatov, Karim Benzema, Samuel Eto’o and David Villa. Drogba, 30, is also wanted by Inter’s former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho (below) and the Ivory Coast forward would love to hook up with his ex-manager again. (Daily Mirror)

AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti’s preferred choice is Drogba and the Italians will wait on the Chelsea man until making moves for other strikers. (Daily Mirror)

Now take all of this information with a grain of salt, but the rumour coming from the Mirror is that Drogba’s move could trigger a £60m offer from Real Madrid for French striker Karim Benzema and Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov. It would then cause Spurs to target Spanish ace David Villa or Real Zaragoza forwards Diego Milito and Sergio Garcia, while Man United would then chase Ajax’s £31.5m Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar after missing out on Berbatov.

Whew! Paper talk that makes your head hurt just thinking about it. So if you believe the Mirror — and I’m sure we all do — then it looks like Drogba’s move to Milan could start a striker avalanche (I’d love to know who has the time to think this stuff up).

Does anyone think that a striker merry-go-round could happen in our lifetime? Or is there a better chance of seeing Sir Alex coaching Dagenham & Redbridge with Malcolm Glazer as his lone striker?
