Liverpool fans; what do you think of Tom Hicks and his “travel expenses”?
by Dexter on June 11th, 2008The Daily Telegraph has had a good rummage through Liverpool’s annual accounts and noticed something rather strange. Liverpool’s co-owner Tom Hicks has been asking for some money back from his own club, journo Jim White writes that Hicks claimed:
“£198,000 in legal, travel and other expenses. Travel expenses? Last time I checked, rather than expecting the club to pick up the tab, ordinary fans generally pay their own way to the match.” (Telegraph)
Liverpool fans, for someone who is desperate to portray himself as a fellow fan, is the American starting to look a tad foolish?

why dont they make up,after their little row + sell to DIC. THEY ARE THE WORST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO LIVERPOOL . NOW F##K OFF.
southscouser - June 11th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
go home yanks , that trip we will pay for!
Uncle Necky - June 11th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
I hope the accounts department/chief executive tell him to fuck off. Some hope.
They are milking our club dry. How was this ever allowed to happen and how did Moores choose these parasites over DIC?
We are now a laughing stock and there is no sign of these two leaving any time soon.
It’s a very sad period and I hope it doesn’t do irreparable damage to the club.
Just think, sharelfc have no chance of raising the £500M they need now but might have been able to raise £250M to buy out Moores, or even £125m to buy half.
Fuck it!

WHY ARE THEY CLAIMING EXPENSES OFF A CLUB THAT THEY OWN, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS PAY, FOR YOUR OWN PLEASURE.
James - June 11th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
What happened with that huge group of fans that were raising the money to buy them out? It seemed like it would actually work! A club owned by the fans. It couldn’t get any more perfect than that! The yanks don’t give us any money, get the club into debt and refuse to let DIC take the reigns. It’s almost like they’re enjoying draining us of everythign we have until there’s nothing left….scum

All businesses incur expenses… my own company spend 50k a year on travel alone. I’m not necessarily supporting Tom Hicks or anyone else at LFC but get real, in business you have expenses. Without seeing detailed accounts as to how this money was spent we shouldn’t comment as it may well be legitimate expenses. Maybe some of these costs were accrued trying to secure the Torres deal? Would we as LFC fans be complaining then?

How can he get away with it? The difference in the amount Hicks has claimed to Gillett is unbelievable. What a joke!
jj - June 11th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
god u guys frustrate me,
the word legal was also included, do u really think it was all on airfare,
the papers are making the most of it.
and if i owned a club i would expect it to pay for my family to fly over and watch it, its a business not a hobby
plus i am trying to remember the last world class player bought from the last regime of torres and in the future babel;s class.

They are bleeding the club we love dry!!!!! Mr Hicks and Mr Gillett please take some advice and just get the F&CK out of LIVERPOOL.
Where is the stadium you promised?
Why are we up to are necks in debt again when you promised we would be debt free?
Why dont you sell to DIC?
Why dont you stick your head between your legs and kiss your arse goodbye - then say sorry to every LIVERPOOL fan who has paid good hard earned money only for you to have robbed it.

i wonder when all this crap will end. this club needs to rescued now because it is only a matter of time before we start to lose our top players. its like rafa is also with these yanks. they need to removed asap.

When I go to see Liverpool play, I have to pay for the ticket, for a seat where my knees are tucked up under the shoulder blades of the person in front, and have to fork out to get there.
This pair already have their seat in the directors box with plenty of leg room, they’ve paid for it by buying the club, but I draw the line at paying their travel expensives to come to games.

I really think it’s nobodies business actually and as long as they get on with the Job and get things correct on the footballing side its not our Business. Another thing is either people are relly stupid or retarded. If you bought a business and in this case pumped millions in your name wouldn’t you want a return. I would. GOSH you are quite simply STUPID! and have no clue. You are reminding me of a comedian FRANK SPENCER! IMAGINE i bought Torres and don’t recoup for my put;ay what retards. I cannot believe it!

It’s standard practice in business but the figures, indeed, don’t look good in public.
I think money aside, the real question is ARE they right for Liverpool.
Lies and deceit, a bungled plan to develop the stadium, a huge falling out with Rafa? That’s their record. So, no, they’re not classy enough for Liverpool.
Gillett has actually behaved quite well in public since falling out with Hicks, but I’d prefer someone who understands British football.
DCI may well be wolves in sheeps clothing.

The yanks own the club and it is a business.
How many business owners pay there own expenses when they travel, they always claim it back.
indeed I’d be happy to wager that the reporter claims travel expenses as well as many other expenses.
I’m no fan of the yanks but these stories are just poor tabloid attempts at stirrng up a hornets nest.
SK - June 11th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Interesting to see the reporter picks on £198,000 of Hick’s, and not the £1.2 mil of Gillett’s
thido - June 11th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
couldn’t george gillet get some blame as well? his expenses are even more than hicks! yet no mention of it? i’m not a hicks fan but am in interested in fairness.
Si - June 11th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
If they have genuine intentions of moving the club forward, taking money from rafa’s transfer pot is a surefire way of doing the complete opposite…
I think this will all come to a head when the work on the new stadium is again put back due to lack of funding…
The longer this drags on, the more any potential new investor(s) will need to pay to get this club back on the straight and narrow…
