Yet more proof that Allardyce was an utterly craptastic Newcastle manager…
by Dexter on June 11th, 2008 They say that if you gave a million monkeys a million typewriters and had them bashing away for a million years, you would end up with the complete works of Shakespeare. One wonders whether Sam Allardyce, if given a million years, a million players and an endless dripfeed of cash could have turned his Newcastle side around. Not only did Allardyce have Newcastle play ugly and basic cave-dwelling football, but he also made some woeful signings.
Reports are coming in that defender David Rozehnal, a £2.9m Newcastle signing last summer by Allardyce, has been summarily flogged to Lazio for £1.4m, that’s a loss of £1.5m folks. So was Rozehnal the worst signing of the Allardyce tenure, or are there worse out there?

Alan Smith and Joey Barton.
Don’t get me wrong, Barton is a good midfielder, but are we really that surprised by his current situation? No.
Thanks fat Sam.

What are you on about a 1.5million loss isnt that bad. Baye is class so is faye, Enrique is starting to look good too. He actually spent very little.
How much did other managers waste? I’m not defending Sam you that comment is rubbish.
If any Barton is the signing you should be commenting on.

Alan Smith for £6m is his worst signing, he has been shocking for us.
Toon - June 11th, 2008 at 10:41 am
The official club site says we got our money back for Rozenthal. However that would ruin the tone of the article. I agree Allardyce was an appaling manager and Alan Smith at 6M is the biggest waste of money ever.

Alan Smith and Barton are the worst
Smith because he has been shite for a long time now so why they thought he would be any different god knows
and Barton because the guy should have been on the dole a long time ago rather than racking up yet another chance to perform.
I thought less of Sam for agreeing to take Barton than any of his other signings, the guy doesn’t deserve to play in the Conference let alone the Premiership.
other than that I think Sam is ok - did a good job at Bolton and wasn’t really given a chance at the toon.

Christ does everyone believe what they read? Even if we did only get £1.4m for him we also got €1m for his loan fee. Who is to say that the £2.9m is actually correct and didn’t include wages? As for asking if he made worse signings?! He was one of the better ones….Smith and Barton will go down in English folklore as being absolutely shocking signings. However, Useless Sam did rake in what he spent too. his problem was man management. The players he signed hated him within a few months. It takes a special someone to be able to do that! Even Gullit had to drop players for the derby game to get that sort of hatred!!!

Was this the same Joey Barton that was rumoured to have nearly signed for Arsenal before moving to Newcastle?
Chris F - June 11th, 2008 at 11:04 am
well every toon fan wishes he had signed for arsenal.
the fact is, barton just isn’t as good as he thinks he is.
he’s a decent midfielder, but he’s not a match-winner.
he’s got to be the worst buy purely for the fact that the Dabo situation had already taken place when we signed him, so we knew what was probably coming.
the fact barton exacerbated the situation by going on the rampage round liverpool over christmas just makes the signing even more questionable.
6m we have pissed into the wind, frankly, and that’s before you take into account the wages the thug is on.
RayParlourforPresident - June 11th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
he was linked with Arsenal but couldn’t see Wenger touching him with a bargepole after the dramatics that went on at Man City
Am so bloody glad he didn’t come to arsenal - the guy is a disgrace to Football. sod it he’s a disgrace to humans in general.
Ken Cheese - June 11th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
That’s a bit strong RayParlour…. What have you got against him?
Darren Clark - June 11th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
What about Geremi? I mean for starts he must have put over 100 corners this season at the front post to be easily cleared, everytime he takes one you know where its going.
He cant run, cant tackle, cant attack nor defend, yet fat sam made him captain, I mean after Shearer, we replace the captain with that mug.
Barton is just 100% doo lally if you ask me, you cant blame him coz he is clearly a nut job.
The person who put that faye is class, did you go to any games this season, he wins headers granted, but he must be using boumsongs boots if you ask me coz he is on his arse more times than drogba and heskey combined
boris - June 11th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Arsenal wouldn’t have touched him….they have a large french contingent who are all aware of the Dabo incident…..only FSA was stupid enough to thing there was any good in this pathetic moron (Barton)………as for Geremi we had a much better record with him in the team last season than without so think that speaks volumes

Beye was a great signing, Faye okay, Enrique improving, jurys still out. Joey ,what can i say ,decent player, head banger. Cacapa and Geremi, no legs.
Smith love his enthusiasm, but puzzles me how he ever got an england cap, or played for Man. U., let alone signed him for 6m.
Viduka, has all the skills, can hold the ball, lay it off, natural goal scorer, overweight, sick note, sell by date approaching.
Did I miss anyone?

Rayparlour president. Are you for real? Any longer and the fat neanderthal, moronic oaf would have had us in the championship. Allardyce is the biggest ground emptying turn off in football. He left a very poor bunch of players, primarily (Smith and Barton) and others totally demoralised and in freefall. The guy is indefensible. His actions were of an egotistical megalomaniac who twiddled his fat thumbs while Newcastle burnt.
His football was long ball, physical and ultra negative, even agains Derby at home who we couldn’t beat. No style, no thrills, nothing. Sam says he’s a top man in hios field. He’s won nothing and is a disgrace to the beautiful game. Everything he does is ugly. Gloating about kicking Arsenal off the pitch. Arsenal and Allardyce = Beauty and the beast. Wenger or Allardyce it’s a no - brainer.
