Arsenal boss wants £17m centre back: Price seems a bit steep!

It seems that the transfer market has gone a little crazy this summer. Even if the team bidding isn’t Chelsea, the team selling still adds about 50% on top of a fair valuation, will Wenger fall for the bait?

The Gunners are keen to add the 21-year-old Colombian Cristian Zapata one of the most highly-rated defenders in European football, to their squad ahead of the new season which begins in August.

However, Udinese have rejected an opening offer from Arsene Wenger’s side of £9.5million, as they rate the youngster at around £16million and are desperate to keep him. (fansfc.com)

However good Zapata may be, and having seen him in action a few times for Udinese I can say that he does look pretty decent, Arsene will not pay that wildly-inflated fee. It does seem that Wenger is looking to sign a central midfielder above any other potential deal, so I doubt he will put much of his transfer budget into a relatively inexperienced player. Do Arsenal fans think that Zapata should be on Arsene’s wishlist or would they rather see Yaya or Villa in a Gunners shirt?
