£25m Tottenham striker catches Barcelona’s eye
by stresster on June 16th, 2008Spurs have managed to reach the fixture publication date and still have Dimitar Berbatov on their books. Surely the next target is to still have the Bulgarian come the start of July, especially if the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid have started to acquire other attacking diamonds.
However, the Daily Telegraph report that there is a potential suitor for the centre-forward and it’s a biggie. Barcelona have a new manager at the helm and the word on the street is that Pep Guardiola likes the look of the Spurs hitman. With Ronaldinho almost certain to leave and Eto’o also eyeing a move away, is Berba bound for the Nou Camp?
The Catalan club are rebuilding under new manager Pep Guardiola and reports suggest that the Bulgaria forward will soon become the subject of a £25 million bid. Berbatov’s future in North London has been uncertain since last season when he was linked with a possible move to Old Trafford, where Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be one of his admirers.
Spurs, reluctant to part with arguably their best player, are even less keen on selling the Bulgaria international to another Premier League club and have made it clear that a price in excess of £30m will be necessary.
It’s just possible that all of Berbatov’s potential bidders may baulk at the striker’s price tag, something which has also occurred between Emmanuel Adebayor and Milan. Tottenham are clearly determined to get every penny possible for the striker if he is to jump ship, although Barcelona are surely in a position to break the bank if they want to land one of the best players that the Premier League has ever seen.

Sell to Prem Club = £30-35 mil. Sell to European club £25-30 mil. Why keep strengthening the clubs we are trying to catch up with? Also, its good to see Fergie getting a taste of his own medicine with Real tapping up Ronaldo, Fergie has been doing it for years to other clubs and has done it to Berba since his first season with us. If he did have to go to a Prem club though, I would rather it be Utd or Liverpool, rather than the Chavs (£60 mil for them) or the Scum!

I hope it is Barca, should he ( When he ) decide to move on. This is interferring with Ramos’s plans at the moment, so the sooner we get rid the better.
He will be a huge risk for any major club, and Barca is a very clickish team. There are circles of friends in the camp, and Henry was left in the cold for some time. I can’t see him being a party animal, but he seriously needs to grow up and stop his whining.

I agree with you, but it seems Barca will be bidding. It baffles me as well, but there you go. Too risky.

I think if Spurs feel that there is no way to retain him, which I think they will. They should sell him to Barcelona, immediatley. 25 million pounds is a ton of money, and it beats the hell out of selling him to Machester where they have to see him a couple times a year. It’s clear Berba needs a change of scenary, and if Barca wants to fork out THAT much cash for him, Spurs should take the money and run.
