£32m Liverpool target keen on move: Does Rafa want him?
by Mr Comfort on June 19th, 2008 21 commentsMuch coming and going with this latest twist in the long running saga as the race for this Euro 2008 star continues..
Chelsea face a fight with Real Madrid and Liverpool for the highly-rated Valencia striker David Villa, but they will have to pay 40 million euros – around £32 million.
Villa, 26, admitted yesterday that he could be persuaded to move to England and that while Chelsea interested him, the prospect of teaming up with former Valencia coach Rafael Benitez and Spain strike partner Fernando Torres was an option.
“Liverpool and Chelsea are both big clubs with a lot of attraction,” he said before adding, “Liverpool have a Spanish coach and I also have a lot of friends there.
“When Rafa was coach at Valencia and I was at Zaragoza there was contact about me joining Valencia but I couldn’t arrive until the year after he left there.” (Telegraph)
Although Liverpool are reportedly not interested in signing David Villa maybe they could be persuaded to change their minds, especially if it meant they beat rivals Chelsea to his signature! Torres and Villa is a damn fine strike partnership, possibly be the best pairing in the world right now, is that too much for Rafa B to resist?

We have no chance of signing him while the Hickletts are in charge, they wont even pay for their own travel let alone a player at that price.

1. he ain’t worth 10 mil more than torres
2. torres is younger, has more potential
3. owners are bickering, and they won’t/can’t compete with chelsea/man utd in the transfer market
4. benitez needs players in other areas more urgently, particularly left/right backs and wide players.
5. for that money, I’d raid Blackburn for Bentley and Santa Cruz

we need 2 get rid of hicks and gillet then we bring in D.I.C. then we can buy him
southscouser - June 20th, 2008 at 7:20 am
its just a smokescreen, Rafa wants Silva. a much better option, as Villa is made to look good by others around him. we need a wide player like D.S. who gets in and wins ball. ps. O’Neil your a dickhead, you aint won any fans with your boo hoo-ing about Barry , get over it .

we need both players, from now we only bough villa and silva if alonso didn’t go we would have a genuine title contending side no word of a lie and even at premium price the pare wouldnt cost more than 50m thats what we need to make the difference we need to be spending 50m on 2 or three players like the other big boys are, rafas got money hes just not waving it round

david silva will sign for liverpool for around 13-15 miliion, david villa is to much of price to pay 32 million no chance as for barry rafa will decide to not pay what villa want and move for someone else
alonso will sign for juventus for 15 million as rafa has perfers someone with pace and energy
