Newcastle, Everton, Manchester City, Arsenal. Do any of them stand a chance of signing Russian ace?
by stresster on June 22nd, 2008Did we witness the best individual player performance of Euro 2008 on Saturday night? Andrei Arshavin’s dazzling array of skills will take some beating, and it’s little wonder that a flock of English clubs are reported to be interested in signing the midfielder - who wouldn’t be!
Out of the Premier League outfits rumoured to be interested in the Zenit midfielder, Arsenal are probably the likeliest, given their stature in Europe and their involvement in the Champions League. However, money obviously talks in this game and a club like Manchester City can stump up any amount of cash to secure Arshavin’s signature. Newcastle and Everton may be priced out of what could be a bidding war between a handful of clubs.
Sky Sports confirm that the midfielder is looking for a move.
“Andrei has told us that he wishes to change clubs,” Zenit coach Dick Advocaat told reporters on Friday.
“At present, in the way of offers, it is quiet.
“The situation may well change after the game against Holland for the national side.”
Surely, supporters of any of the above clubs would jump at the chance to see the pocket dynamo wearing the colours of their team next term? Quite simply, when he gets on the ball, he makes things happen and also knows where the goal is, as Holland and Sweden can testify. Just who will sign Andrei Arshavin?

Go ahead wenger… me thinks he’ll be t signing of the season for Arsenal if we get him… and you wont get a cheaper replacement for adebayor who apparently will be better than adebayor….
EVERTON - June 22nd, 2008 at 10:12 am
i think he will suit well in everton the most…is arshavin go arsenal, i think he will sit on the bench only and it will waste his talent.
And newcastle is just not good enough for him
So in the end it is up to man city and everton la

Im a City fan and I think last nights performance probably brought other Big teams into a bidding war. I wouldnt be surprised if the likes of Chelski, Manure and Real Madrid were sniffing.
I would love him at City but do not expect him to arrive and dont expect he will join any of the teams mentioned in this article either except for maybe Arsenal

Newcastle, Everton, Manchester City? All three of those clubs must be dreaming. Arshavin is only going to move to a super club. After his performance any club other than AC Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man United & Chelsea have no chance of signing him. I believe AC Milan and Chelsea are the front runners because they offer the highest wages.
matt - June 22nd, 2008 at 10:25 am
yeah a super club like arsenal

he’s just won the uefa cup, and if he wants to leave that means he wants to have a good chance in the champions league.

Moyes has been watching him since late last year. Looks like he has taken too long to try to sign him. He should have had this wrapped up before Euro’s. He’s a class player, I’d love to see Arshavin at Goodison, but I believe there is only a very small chance of that happening now. He will probably have admirers with deeper pockets.
Thomas - June 22nd, 2008 at 11:06 am
He has said before he would like to play for Everton and I’m sure he stands by that.
Newcastle have no chance because they have no Europe though.

I would say that he is the first player that we have seen that could actually replace reasonably the one thing Arsenal miss, Dennis Berkamp. He would not warm the bench if we got him and he would be wasted at Newcastle and Everton…. I beleve also that Arsenal is his prefered destination … also Ade could the leave for 24mil if we are lucky we could get Arse shaving, and the Brazilian Santos… or what ever his name is..I forget…
EVERTON - June 22nd, 2008 at 12:38 pm
arsenal already have better stikers that is van persie, eduardo and bendner who is getting better at the end of the season…even if adebayor leaves arshavin will not be good enough to be in the 1st team
That is why i said he will warm the bench…
Newcastle is 100% impossible cause arshavin wanted to play in europe and man city and everton can provide it!!!
astrit dervishaj - June 22nd, 2008 at 12:55 pm
i think that Wenger should buy Arshavin because he is the the player which Arsenal miss since ROBERT PIRES go to Villareal.I see him i Uefa Cup and in this Euro2008 he impresed me in games against Sweden and especially against Holland ,he is a good winger and with hia abilitties he ca help ARSENAL to won trophies and after him i hope that him to follow from Y.Toure and David Villa
Nozzy - June 22nd, 2008 at 1:09 pm
He’ll go to Barca or AC. Everton lol, thats some funny shit. Why would he go to a team that’ll only ever play in the UEFA Cup after leaving the UEFA Cup winners?!?! Numpties.
wees - June 22nd, 2008 at 1:39 pm
why would he go to everton they have no chance in europe
Everton??? - June 22nd, 2008 at 1:45 pm
ha that was a quality comment by “Everton” No offence but if Ade leaves arsenal need some1 in, RVP good on his day but never has a consistant season due to injurys, u cant gamble on how long eduardos gonna tek and bendner? hes fookin shit in my opinion, arsenal need to get spendin. Perhaps Villa, will cost a bit tho
blake - June 22nd, 2008 at 3:33 pm
wneger will know what hes doin but i think we should buy him then we will have nasri comin he could come and theo 4 the wings so we will have 3 good wingers
FiringGunners4Lyfe - June 22nd, 2008 at 3:41 pm
He’s a great player no doubt and I would love to see him at Arsenal, but I have reservations over all the hype that he will be the replacement for Adebayor. My main theory behind this is that Ade is 23 and Arshvin is 27 (approaching 28 I believe). He’s not exactly a younger model is he? A potentially good signing no doubt but would be 10 times better if we can hang on to Ade as well. If not i would like to see Santa Cruz or someone of his callibre added to the ranks.

arshavin is a great player. everton and other clubs are looking after him. david moyes scouted him for so long but to be frank, after his outstanding performance in euro 08, big-guns club in europe will try to secure his service.
everton, newcastle and man city can look for another talent i think…
nil satis nisi optimum

If it becomes a bidding war then there will be only one winner: Manchester

Nozzy ya fckin doughnut. The guy has played at goodison for zenit and complemented them on the atmoshere and was gracious in defeat.Yes we beat them eventual champions.
He knows all about everton and has been quoted holding them in high regard.
Yes cl football could be a pull, but efc has amazing team spirit and that can be a huge pull for any player.
I agree he could go to barca as thats who he supports, but ac cant apparently afford him.
If he wants to be a star player at a club and be at a club who are on the up then efc is a perfect place for him.
Please dont disrespect a club which has so many footballing milestones, throughout the country, spanning over 3 centuries,it too unjust.
