Spurs move closer to £20m superstar signing: What a striker!

Some conflicting reports on a long-running saga that may or may not be getting somewhere nearer a resolution!

David Villa admits he would consider leaving Valencia, if the Primera Liga side agreed to sell him.
The Spaniard has become one of the most-wanted strikers in Europe following his goalscoring exploits at Euro 2008 and Chelsea, Tottenham, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all thought to be considering summer bids.
“In the event that Valencia told me they were going to sell me then I would address my options,”
“It’s not an issue between the clubs. It’s not something I’m thinking about.
“My focus is on this tournament (Euro 2008) and making sure Spain do well. This is not the time to be thinking about my personal future.”
“There is always pressure,” added Villa. “It comes with football.
“Besides pressure is something I thrive on. It keeps me on my toes. I don’t need motivation to play well. I’m motivated enough.
“I want to improve and become a better player. I’m far from the finished article.” (Sunday Mirror)

Tottenham have reportedly agreed to pay Valencia £20m for David Villa.

According to The Sunday Mirror, the ‘striking sensation of Euro 2008 has been the number one target for Tottenham manager Juande Ramos and Spurs have made it clear they will pay the £20m asking price.’

Rather suspiciously, the story ends at this point with no further details supplies.
Which makes Transfer Gossip suspect that Spurs are still a million miles from actually signing the player. For all we know, there may be at least ten clubs which have agreed to pay £20m for the striker. (football365.com)

I think football365.com have pretty much this this nail on the head. Clearly some tabloids have nothing better to do than spin stories endlessly. It is obvious that a plethora of clubs want David Villa and, the moment he finishes his Euro 2008 campaign, he will probably sit down with his Valencia bosses and make it clear he intends to leave.

Will he come to the Premier League? It’s possible, but we will probably just have to keep guessing for the meantime. Do Spurs fans consider Villa as the one remaining big transfer they are hoping to secure before the big kick-off?
