Tottenham close to phenomenal £9m signing: Top of Ramos’s wish list

Apparently a bid for this giant star is already being considered seriously, so is could well happen!

Tottenham have finally firmed up their interest in PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes by making a bid to bring him to White Hart Lane, TPC understands.
The 27-year-old custodian made a number of vital stops during the match and penalty shoot-out as PSV eliminated Spurs from the UEFA Cup last season and his performances throughout last term have led to him leaping to the top of Tottenham’s thoughts as they look to replace Paul Robinson as the club’s No1.
Speculation in the press recently suggested that anything up to £9m could be needed to persuade PSV to part company with the player and we believe Spurs have made an offer that the Dutch club are seriously considering. Tottenham have been linked with a number of first-choice goalkeepers and ones for the future but this move suggests that the Brazilian is top of the Juande Ramos wanted list at present. Gomes is a very efficient keeper who, in four years at PSV, has shown what he is capable of. He has set all manner of records in the Eredivisie and has the kind of stability that Tottenham have missed in their keepers for some time. He marshals his defence very well and that too could help the Spurs back line perform more adequately.

The fee may seem large but, given the recent transfer of keepers such as Craig Gordon and the proposed move of Scott Carson to Villa, the 9m fee doesn’t seem so over-the-top after all. Do Spurs like the look of the Brazilian goalie and would he exorcise the clumsy ghost of Robbo?
