Should Liverpool keep hold of hot-and-cold striker?
by stresster on June 25th, 2008While the speculation over Peter Crouch’s future rumbles on, there’s another striker on the books at Anfield who will need to pull his socks up next season if he’s to remain at the club. Step forward Andrei Voronin, the chap who looks very much like a plumber or an electrician rather than a footballer.
Sky Sports reports that the striker is keen to show what he’s all about next term, after having limited first-team opportunities last season. The Ukrainian is aware that it’s do or die at Liverpool for him and he’s confident that the fans won’t be disappointed.
“I think I started not bad,” he told LFC magazine.
“I played a lot at the beginning and scored a few goals.
“Obviously the injury was a setback. There are a lot of good players here. It’s competitive, so it’s difficult to get straight back into the team after an injury.
“I’ll do my best next season and hopefully I can help the team. I think I still have a lot to show the fans.”
Liverpool fans, do you think that Voronin can cut the mustard at Anfield or will he be offski next summer? He looked quite good in the Reds’ pre-season friendlies last summer, but started to fade away after a bright start to the season. While it’s clear that Fernando Torres is the main man at the club, can the pony-tailed one chip in with his share of the goals?

Andrei started off rather, scored a cracker against a nondescript French side and it’s been downhill ever since. Dunno about hot and cold..it’s been more like ready, steady…CRAP!! Boot him I say, waste of space and waste of wages. Free transfer from German side..hey aren’t we getting another one of those this season as well?

Please leave Mr Voronin. It saddens me to realise that the likes of Luis Garcia and Sinama-Pongolle could have done much better for us. Even El Zhar could be better off as a 4th striker

to be fair he is a good player but not good enough to be in
liverpool squad next season. i think he should leave for
some 3 millions.
the american duo: hicks and gillets have to understand
that if they don’t take action quickly all the excellent
players will go to other teams. i think they are stupid
in expecting rafa to compete with the likes of man united,
chealsea and arsenals without investing enough money
for silva, villa etc. rafa doesnot want to say to much but
obviously he really needs money to complete his move
for signing exellent players.

Agree ,with Boy, get rid of him now and collect some money to cover his wages and go towards proper replacement. Very concerning that the two players so far , one a free did not get any playing time in a poor Swiss defence and he is expected to replace an experienced LFC and International player in Steve Finnan who has been one of ourmost consistent players. And the new left back about to be signed did not even make the Italian squad in the worst defence I have seen from Italy in 30+ years. Very concerning.
There are few freebies of any use , like Zenden, total waste of money having them around.
Rafa better improve the level of players he is targetting. I have done the sumes and while we are not flush we money, we could keep Alonso, buy Barry (16 M max) , Dosena (not sure if he is any good, 7M), Guidjohnson (4M), Joachann (7M), Petrov (7M), Santa Cruz (12M), and the Russian No 10 (12M .
Assuming 25M budget, Sell Carson (8M), Itandje , (1M), Arbelo (4 M), JAR (4M), Guthrie (3M), Le Tallec (1M), Leto (2M), Pennant (5M), Crouch (12M), Veronin (3M, Kyte (8 M) = 76M Kitty.
7M left over, Think of the improvement, we could even let Yossi go and generate another 6 to 7 M, potential to sign another top player for 14M.
