Aston Villa give up on Liverpool keeper and chat to Spurs reject instead
by stresster on June 27th, 2008Two days ago, we predicted a certain Premier League club might go for Paul Robinson and guess what? They’re holding talks with him later this week, if the Enfield Independent are to be believed.
It appears that Aston Villa are done with trying to sign Scott Carson from Liverpool without paying silly money, and are instead prepared to take a punt on Paul Robinson, the Tottenham keeper who has somehow gone from hero to zero in a ridiculously short space of time. Will this throw a spanner in the works as far as Rafael Benitez’s spending plans are concerned?
Tottenham are demanding £5million for Robinson who is keen to leave White Hart Lane after falling out with manager Junade Ramos after losing his place to Radek Cerny midway through last season.
There’s surely little doubt that Robbo needs a fresh start and it appears the Villans are on hand to provide it. They will get him for £10 million less than Carson is reported to cost and perhaps have someone just as good between the sticks next term. Will Liverpool find another suitor for Carson, or will they have the most expensive reserve goalkeeper in the Premier League next term instead?

If Carson were to play for Arsenal, Chelsea or Man U, then all the tabloids would say that he’s worth the price tag just because he’s english. For an international english player, the price is probably justified. I don’t think there’s a loss to Liverpool if he stayed. If Villa are not ready to cough up then its fair they look elsewhere. They might find a David James in Paul Robinson. Good luck, Villans.

Reported by the mighty Enfield Independent, must be gospel then

The problem is Rafa. His approaches to Villa for Barry and to Newcastle for Milner were just awful and alienated both clubs. Carson apparently had a mediocre season with Villa after the England mistake but again Rafa has asked a bit too much but ONeil has lost interest. Problem for us at Anfield is that we are virtually broke and so need to sell at top prices. Other clubs know this.

We’re only asking £6m for Carson, which i think is a really fair price considering he is still only young and a really good GK who has lots of time to develop and improve. Plus, we will be making a profit on him as we only signed him for £750,000 - £1m. I would offer Villa £10m & Carson for Barry, which would make up the value of £15m they want. £10m cash & a fair £5m value of Caron, giving us Barry and Villa £10m cash and the GK they want

As a villa fan i think i would rather have Robbo than Carson as Shawn stated Robbo could do a David James and turn it around Carson never convinced us last year and i dont think MON was either and i could see him as a Richard Wright type who never fulfills his potential.

I think robbo would be a good signing for villa. Its a little frustrating as a spurs fan to see him performing so poorly, when its obvious he’s got excellent credentials. He has been a great goalkeeper at times, and has showed excellent form for club and country. However I think he has come to a stage where he needs a massive confidence boost, and I can only see that coming from a new club and new challenges. It would be great to see him move on and regain his once excellent form, as he would be a massive credit to the England team, at a time when we are struggling for good english keepers with consistent performances.
