Barry no-go to have Silva lining for Liverpool?
by Le Jake on June 27th, 2008With Martin O’Neill adamant that Gareth Barry isn’t leaving the club for any less than £15m, Rafa Benitez is looking to raid his old club Valencia for winger David Silva.
This will be good news for many Liverpool fans, who feel the club already have enough talent in a midfield which includes Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano, and those who feel the club is just a world-class winger away from contending for the Premier League crown.
Although Barry wants to move, Benitez may not have the financial backing to sign him, especially with the imminent signing of Dossena. Which will disappoint the England international.
“Gareth has spoken to Martin since he returned from England’s game in Trinidad and told him how he feels.
“At this stage of his career Gareth wants to be playing Champions League football and believes this is his chance to do it.” Barry’s agent told The Sun
However, Silva could leave for Anfield for far less than his £20m price tag, as Valencia look to pull themselves out of their precarious financial postion. Rafa is hoping to land him for just ten million pounds.
Key to the Silva transfer will be Liverpool’s chief scout Eduardo Macia, who was close with the Spanish superstar in his time working at the Mestalla Stadium.
Publically, Valencia insist they do not want to lose one of their most influential players, but privately they are reported to have contacted several clubs throughout Europe to gauge interest in Silva and David Villa(The Telegraph)
With Silva on one side, and the ever-improving Ryan Babel on the other, many a Liverpool fan will have their fingers crossed that this could be the real deal.

michael - June 27th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Silva is a big no. He has been rubbish 4 euro 2008 and he didn’t do well 4 valencia last year either
josh - June 27th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
to micheal silva has actually been brilliant in the euros in my opinion and he had a bad season at valencia because the players around him were awful !
Stu - June 27th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
Silva bad for Euro 2008 ? are you kidding! He has been great, or did you miss a few matches? Just cos he has only scored one goal does not mean he is not world class, just look at Ronaldo who has failed to impact Euro 2008.
He would be a good signing with Villa.
rowan - June 27th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
poor euro’s?? what u been watchin? but poor players around him at valencia? where do you think villa comes from?
Kop yourselves on - June 27th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
You cant afford them…..stop living in dream land and face the reality that you are broke!!!!!
Ryan - June 27th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Silva would be perfect. A true winger is what we need. But a winger with a great shot is the best thing ever. When Silva and Babel are working both wings we will have two wingers who both can shoot.
Rowan blades - June 27th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
as little as 10 million? pure fantasy made up on the spot by you lot. Don’t talk such dross.
Silva is going to cost as much as 24m pounds.
marky - June 27th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
michael knows nothing about football
super silva's shiny shoes - June 27th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
I reckon 08/09 will see us playing this formation pretty regularly (with Degen & Dossena providing width through overlapping runs, due to the defensive cover provided by Masch & Barry):
Reina
Degen – Carra – Agger - Dossena
Masch - Barry
Babel – Gerrard - Silva
Torres
That leaves a full back-up squad of:
Carson
Arbeloa – Skrtel – Hyypia - Insua
Benayoun – Plessis – Lucas –Aurelio
Kuyt – Nemeth
That looks to me like a side that would beat the drop if they were a Premiership side in their own right!
And thats presuming we lose (or have lost) Kewell, Riise, Alonso, Crouch, Pennant, Voronin, Finnan and Itanje. But I would expect at least 2 of these to still be with us next season, to provide extra cover – and that’s also presuming none of the other talented young reserves make the break-through.
That’s not a bad squad at all! So, in summary, if we can get Barry, Silva & hopefully Villa (who I haven’t included above) in and if Carson stays, then we’ll be very close next season…..

“Barry’s agent told The Sun”
Well he’s off to the worst possible start, maybe he should end his career in mediocrity at Villa…”woo hoo 7th again!”

as a liverpool fan, i accept that liverpool is in no position to compete with man united or chealsea next season. stupid hicks and gillets won’t spend much money on excellent players. lots of rumours with big bame plaers on the media but so far liverpool has been successful only in signing mediocre players below ten million pounds. liverpool cannot sign big names like david silva, david villa, eto, ronaldinho, robinho, etc. who could make a direct impact on the team. they are broke. this is the fact. rafa doesnot want to push the two yankees as well to worsen their relationship as well.
To rowan blades. How do you know that he's going to cost 24m? Are you the manager of valencia? If you dont know anything, just shut your fucking mouth. Valencia is in financial problem. They may sell him. And to all who think silva is a rubbish,FUCK OFF! Y - June 28th, 2008 at 2:23 am

Make it happen LFC…Silva are one of the finest winger…N remember LFC that you also need another forward…Villa!!!!Yes Villa…
dranoeliverpool - June 28th, 2008 at 7:22 am
we need silva, with his dribble ability and shooting..he can either swap position with babel to confuse opposite side especially wing back..we can attack on all cyclinder as kuyt didnt make an impact on the right..silva with his left foot got a lot of room to shoot or make a cute pass when playing wide n cut inside the same role as babel..imagine we can attack by 4 or 5 players (if villa join) with gerrard back to his original position ( CM ) behind two strikers..and have to work hard also to cover hole in the center with masch..anyway, villa will help gerrard on the attack as masch help gerrard on defending..so its a balanced team..our dossena and degen are tall so got the advantage when defend against long ball and set pieces..they both pacey too, they will help on the wings..remember that silva and villa are from valencia,so they understand each other..they are the two puzzles we miss over the years to bring back our glory day..barry on the other hands, just a fringe player compare to alonso..splash the cash to valencia rafa, the club where u find ur tactical touch..
billy bob - June 28th, 2008 at 8:23 am
Theres no way Villa or Silva will be at Liverpool next year, i just hope they can hang on to Torres, ive heard Chelsea are gonna bid 45 million for him.
Just hope the yanks dont cash in on him.
And then they are going to pair him up with Villa up front.
niks2593 - June 28th, 2008 at 8:53 am
We need Silva at Liverpool a left winger and also someone who can come forward and score goals !!! but don’t sell Alonso please !!!!!!!! we need another PROPER striker because if Torres is injured then we’re basically screwed! but Silva has already signed 7 year contract with Valencia , so i doubt he would come , but i really want him to come !!!! Please Silva join our Spanish at Liverpool !

Stu - June 28th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Billy bob - it doesn’t matter how much the stupid Chelski arses offer they will not get Torres. It just shows how stupid they are by thinking they can buy everyone. Yet again Chelsea will not win the league this year or until they realise they cannot keep buying a new team every year. They need to keep the same team and manager for a period of over a year to do so.
We just need the funds…which many people think we do not have. I believe if we sell the players we intend on and for roughly near their Rafestimates then we will have some money to put towards good players.
C - June 28th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Silva has been superb for Spain, creative, hard working, poise…he’s also young. I think he’d be a superb signing and would deliver where pennant has failed. Also - we gotta keep alonso.
Cat - June 28th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
silva is extremely over rated. he’s a good player, and reminds me a little of luis garcia, but i do really believe a winger in the form of royston drenthe from real madrid would be a amazing buy. he would be 10mill at most and he is scary.plus he is only 21, he ripped liverpool apart in the rotterdam cup last season. if we really want a world class winger it has to be ribery… MUCH MUCH better than silva.
dog - June 28th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
out gerrard. in diego…..out pennant, benoyoun. in ribery. ….out crouch, voronin, kuyt.,,,in villa. OUT 4TH PLACE…IN PREMIERSHIP.
hftggdfhgdsrc - June 28th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
wat u mean out gerrard!!!!!!!!! u PRICK
calm down calm down - June 28th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
gerrard should sign for villa if he wants to play with barry. at least villa could afford him . theres zero chance that liverpool will win the league so please dont delude yourselves. will be a fight for 3/4/5 place with everton and villa, nothing more……
ogre - June 28th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
i dont know what that plonker is talkingabout us finshing 3rd nxt season the treble is ours so fuck off .silva is a great signing he can play on either flank which is great and he runs thourgh defenders easy so him and bable can cause havoc on the wings .and torres and STEVIE G get in through the middle .and as for STEVIE leaving dream on u muppet coz he a scouser for life .anyway villa r broke they cant afford him evenif they sold their culb to finance the whole deal so sod off

Ben - June 28th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
silva b4 barry any day. but wouldnt mind barry.
billy bob - June 28th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
i think your all just getting a bit carried away, any player Chelsea flash money at will go for it, at the end of the day they all want to make as much money as they can. And to be honest Liverpool are skint, i had this argument the other day.
The 2 yanks bought the club for 200 million, and have now got a loan secured against the club for 350 million as the bank valued the club at 500 million.
The person in question said to me the banks arent stupid why would they let them secure that 350 million pounds against the club.
Now look at the bigger picture with the credit cruch, the banks have been over lending people money and now they are in the world of pooh.
Just hope Liverpool dont become the first football club to go under like leeds due to the credit crunch.
Scouser - June 29th, 2008 at 12:31 am
OUT GERRARD?!!!!! ARE YOU MAD???? He is the team!!, velencia have been in debt for a long time, we can get villa and silva plus, rafa lets not forget used to coach over there and knows the management and players, he could get them for a special price plus he is well respected by villa, and he wud love to play alongside torres, we need to sell alonso in order to help us with the funds, its no point in keeping him on the bench for the value hes worth, its hard but has to be done.
Sonny - June 29th, 2008 at 10:14 am
Lets face the facts……… Liverpool need to sell before we can buy the likes of Silver etc etc and the only way we are going to raise the cash is to sell players like Alonso, Crouch, Yossi, Voronin and Kuyt.
If we sell Alonso that will generate £15m - Crouch £10m - Yossi £6m - Voronin £3m and Kuyt £10m (which i dont think Rafa would sell him anyway) that would give us £48m, we have already bought Dossena for £7m and some young up and coming kids.
All we have done so far is sell Risse for £4m
So lets all get real and see who go’s to what club for what price then we can start the buying proccess.
