Is Liverpool idol really the best in the world?
by stresster on June 27th, 2008Despite only scoring one goal for Spain during Euro 2008, one of his club team-mates certainly thinks Fernando Torres is better than any other striker on the planet. Fernando Torres had a startling good debut season for Liverpool, smashing in 33 goals for the Reds, including three consecutive league hat-tricks at Anfield.
Sky Sports reports that one of his biggest fans appears to be Jamie Carragher, who claims that he wouldn’t swap the Spaniard for anyone else (what - not even Cristiano Ronaldo?).
“He has a great partnership with Villa they look really sharp the two of them and Fernando has took his form from Liverpool into the national team,” Carragher told Sky Sports News.
“He does not have to prove anything to anyone at Liverpool as he has done it in the Champions League and I am sure he has gone down well in Spain.
“I am Liverpool player and I am biased, I suppose, but for me he is the best.
“I am just delighted to be in the same team as him and it was a great bit of business by the club last summer, great for Rafa who brought him in and he has repaid everyone.
“Hopefully he will do it for the next four or five years for Liverpool, but at the moment I would not swap him for anyone.”
His pace certainly troubled the Russian defence on Thursday night, although he’s been asked to make runs in wide position for the national team, wheras for Liverpool he plays far more centrally and relies on others to make runs down the wing. Can Torres surpass 33 goals next season for the Reds or will he do well to bag that many?

Dont let the one goal fool you Torres is a class apart Villa and Torres dont work and that can be seen by last nights performance - once Villa went off spain played to torres strengths and totaly played Russia of the park. Torres is more than a goal scorer hes a team player who happens to be the best in world who would you swap him for the answer is no one so stop wrting shit blogs and go and learn about football you tosser

couldnt agree more with dan the red you really are a dumb prick ant you
JPF - June 27th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Dan the red - Best in the world my holy arse. Typical dipper delusion, just like Carragher is the best defender in the Prem, and Gerrard the best midfielder in the world, and maybe this season ‘will be your year’, if you had the best striker in the world, and the best midfielder, then maybe, just maybe, you’d have actually won a trophy last season……..

torres may only hav scored one goal but if he played the whole 90 mins las nyt v russia he wud hav grabbed at least another 2. the torres-villa partnership jus doesnt get torres as much goals as he gets wen playin between the two central defenders.

torres missed so many oppurtunities this tournament its untrue. Hes obviously a great player but not the best in the world. He scored loads for liverpool last season but only got 4 assists so for Dan the red to suggest he’s like some all round perfect team player is rubbish. Plus he can’t score away from anfield. 53 caps and only 13 goals is a rubbish return for the supposed best striker in the world, and aren’t the best players supposed “international class”.

JJ - June 27th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Look at all the clowns. ANY team in the world would take Torres tomorrow if they could get him. Best STRIKER in the world no question. I’d like to hear who joey joe joe thinks is a better centre forward ???

Curt Hennig - June 27th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
People seem to be forgetting that “best” doesn’t mean “perfect”.
/Although he is perfect.

I find it funny that “Lfc” is a united fan…
Anyway Torres is fantastic. I think we need to judge him on next years performance to really tell if he is the best in the world. He is certainly one of the best…
Spain certainly don’t play to Torres’ strengths, and Aragones seems to take him off everytime he plays well… and when he does spain seem to score!
Bit unfortunate on that front

Best striker in the world or not, who cares? He makes me happy !! Silva to go with him, would do just fine!
Dan the red - June 27th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
ok Joey Joe Joe - tells who you support. And would Torres walk straight in to your team - I think the answer you should look for is a BIG YES. who in the world could replace him at club level. And team work is not about assists its about all the unselfish work he does. He never lets defenders have a minute so think before you write once again I find it incredible that tossers like you write such shit without thinking..
Joey joe joe - June 27th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Of course torres would walk into most peoples teams. Hes an excellent striker. I wasn’t saying hes shit, I was merely pointing out that he’s not the best. He’s had one good season and all the Liverpool fans are going wild over him. Look at his record at Athletico Madrid. Hardly anything to brag about. By your logic Adebayor is the best too then due to last season. If he keeps it up over a longer period like say Nistelrooy or Henry then he can have the title of Best striker in the world. Until then hes just an excellent player. If we are going on “1 great season makes you the best” then here is a list of other excellent strikers who could also have a shout of the “best” title over the past couple of years. Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, David Villa, Luca Toni, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Lionel Messi, Luis Fabiano, Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor, Robin van Persie, Miroslav Klose, Dimitar Berbatov, Roque Santa Cruz, its all opinion so stop crying about it.
