Tottenham and Blackburn to play winger swap
by stresster on June 27th, 2008Spurs are clearly keen as mustard when it comes to David Bentley, and have offered Blackburn the chance to not only receive a tidy sum of cash for the ex-Arsenal winger, but also have Aaron Lennon as part of the deal.
The Guardian report that Tottenham have offered £7million plus the tiny wide-man in exchange for Bentley’s services, although Rovers will clearly take some budging when it comes to letting their man go. Paul Ince has declared that none of his players for sale, despite the England international stating his desire to leave Lancashire a few weeks ago.
Would this represent good business for Spurs or Blackburn if the above deal were to go through? Two seasons ago, you might have argued that Lennon was the better player, shining in his World Cup cameo roles for England. However, his career has gone slightly off the rails since then, while Bentley’s performances last season has forced him into Fabio Capello’s plans.

As a Blackburn fan, Id drive Bentley myself wherever he wanted to roam.. why would he go to Spurs anyway when he craves Champions League football… he will do the same to them as he is doing to us.. He is a nasty bit of work, everything bad in the modern footballer. Having said that, I wouldnt want Lennon as part of the deal…id rather take £15m, or sell him to Liverpool and have Pennant in part-ex. The sooner we get rid the better I say

He’d go to spurs, Steve, because spurs are twice as big a club as Blackburn, so wake up!
We’re still offering him European football, alongside players like Berbatov, Keane, Woodgate, Jenas, King, Modric, Dos Santos etc….who lets be fair, are in a different class to the majority of Blackburn players.
£15 million is too much however. £8 million alone, or £4million plus lennon would represent much more realistic a figure.

Steve. I understand your anxt. We Spurs fans feel the same about Berba, no loyalty, greedy, selfish etc. Bentley said he wanted European football, not necessarily CL, and Blackburn are not in Europe.
I think he will be a fantastic signing for us. Are you aware that he is a Spurs fan ? I also think Lennon plus cash is a good deal for Blackburn. Ince might get more from Lennon, and given the fact that he is closer to home, he might develop quicker.

I will share the driving and petrol money with you in regards to dropping Bentley off at his next club. He is overrated, arrogant and I for one can’t wait for him to pack his bags and move on. He’s not half the player Duff was in his time at Ewood and if we could get £15million from some mug I’d be delighted.

spurs fan dont want him prefer lennon hes quicker and if he could sort out his final pass he would be world class bentley is new to the scene and older than lennon two years ago lennon was hot to trot for england so why should we let him go so cheaply lennon s worth 10 million bentley new boy on the block has a lot to prove

Bentley is a class act whereas Lennon’s career has nosedived. The fact is Bentley is tied down at Blackburn for 3 years and unless Spurs are prepared to offer a decent package (£15M plus Lennon minimum) then Rovers are unlikely to sell and Bentley will just have to carry on playing the way he is doing - but in a blue and white halved shirt.

EVAN, maybe twice as big a club but its on the pitch that matters..for all your “class” players, you always under achieve. When you finally won the Micky Mouse Cup, you switched off for the remainder of the season.. I dont see MU, Chelsea, or the Gooners doing that. And Bentley added “or at least in Europe” as an after thought when being interviewed by Sky.. cos he knows he aint good enough for any Champions League club.

Bentley is an overated diva would prefer Ashley Young with cash and Robinson and if Curtis Davis is fit take him too .
Steve - June 27th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Anyway, Ive come on herre to have a go at Bentley not Spurs.!!..good luck for the season.

Steve, I am a Spurs fan and I think Lennon will improve at Rovers as he is closer to home and Ince will get the best out of him. I am all for Bentley coming to WHL as we need a better crosser. I know he is a dodgy character but he is a good player and has lots of potential. And good luck to you too.

Let him go, I can even buy the plane ticket to london, or wherever he wants to go. If you look at the last 5-6 years blackburn is as much a top club as villa, tottenham, everton, newcastle ++. But let him go, we’ll cash in £8 and Lennon. He’s still only 21 - ince will sort him out.
