Why do so many clubs rate Everton’s Andy Johnson?
by Dexter on June 27th, 2008 Once upon a time, Andy Johnson was the 17th President of the United States. As we all know, he jacked that in ages ago, and he’s now a professional footballer with Everton, who - somewhat strangely - is being trailed by a veritable carousel of suitors.
When AJ was at Crystal Palace his goal-every-other-game haul was pretty spiffy, tempting Toffees boss Davie Moyes to nab him. Throughout his time at Goodison, he has been the personification of perpetual motion. Unfortunately, though he works like a shirehorse, he seems to have forgotten how to score. This hasn’t stopped a who’s who of mediocre Premier League clubs having a hearty sniff around AJ.
Wigan manager Steve Bruce is ready to smash the club’s transfer record with a £8million bid for Everton striker Andy Johnson.
Bruce will try to outbid rivals Middlesbrough, West Ham, Manchester City and Aston Villa for the England forward. (Daily Mail)
So what makes all these clubs think that they can turn AJ back into a goal machine?

AJ is a good player. I think Man Utd should bid for him. He is better then Saha. He is very quick and would suit our play

The guy brings so much more than goals to a team.Unless you have a decent knowledge of football, you wouldnt understand. He stretches teams with runs behind, creates space for yak,and other midfielders,is a senior player in the efc squad, and if he started 38 games he wuld get 20 + goals.
He frightens defenders with his pace and that can also generate opportunities for players, you can compare him to other strikers (cisse apart, cos hes just shite joel, grab a clue ya window licker) but to be honest there is not many like him.
I really want him to be at efc next year, and he will be cos he’s vital to the coming years at efc.

He’s not shit, but he’s not great either. 22 goals in 64 apperances is ok (about 1 goal in 3 games) but far from great. He does work hard and whilst he isn’t a deadly threat in front of goal, he at least generates space for others. I’m not comparing him to Rooney but its a similar situation in that people have misjudged his value to the team. Rooney gets slated by some fans for his strike rate. Last year rooney had a hand in at least 25 goals with his overall play, but he only scored 12 in the league with 13 assists. Does that make him a bad player? He didn’t score loads but helped in other ways through assists and drawing out players. Its similar with Johnson (though don’t bang on about me comparing the two players, as there is obviously a gulf in ability between Johnson and Rooney). I’m just pointing out that Johnson can do a job, and he works hard. He’s certainly not useless though

joel- hahahaha, thanks for proving me right, you know jack!
he was injured at various stages last year, and had to get back in the team ahead of the free scoring yak and the world class cahill.
He is no ronaldo, cos they play different positions ya idiot, but im sure if you read more about football, watch more tv, then you will find that out ya joker!
So considering 6 prem clubs have expressed an interest in him, perhaps you should tell all of them managers ,that he is only championship standard.
Joel, you are a window licker, who needs anger management.

West Ham 4 Life - June 28th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
AJ is pure Shite, to the guy who said he brings more then goals, your chattin rubbish, he scored 6 goals in 26 apps. that less then 1 every 4 games. YEAH WELL WORTH £10M!
Plews - June 28th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
As a Villa fan, i think he has some qualities but not the standard Everton need/want. Worth around £4m in my opinion but wouldn’t pay anything more.. Hes too short to be a striker or play football in general but considering this 6 goals is still good :S
