Liverpool to sign £1m bargain: A very clever signing and this guy is damn good!

Rafa looks to this veteran to offer cover for what could be another long season at Anfield!

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to add Fulham’s Antti Niemi to their goalkeeping stocks this summer.
The Finnish shot-stopper’s future at Craven Cottage appears decidedly uncertain following the arrivals of Mark Schwarzer and David Stockdale from Middlesbrough and Darlington respectively.

Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson is keen to rebuild his entire squad over the summer in an attempt to avoid another relegation scrap, meaning the likes of Niemi and fellow keeper Kasey Keller could be on their way.

And the English press is claiming that Liverpool are keen to snap up the former Southampton custodian as they continue their search for a reliable understudy to Jose Reina. (goal.com)

Liverpool are ready to take Fulham keeper Antti Niemi to Anfield as back-up for No 1 Pepe Reina.
Niemi, 36, cost £2million from Southampton in 2006, but is behind Mark Schwarzer in the Craven Cottage pecking order.
Liverpool still have Scott Carson on their books but he could be off to West Brom or Middlesbrough. (News of the World)

Niemi is a damn good keeper who has been pretty solid throughout his career. A no-nonsense character who does everything expected of him. Clearly Rafa doesn’t see Scott Carson as having a Liverpool future, so all the Spaniard needs is good cover for what he hopes will be a 50+ game season. The Finn can be relied upon to serve the club well when the excellent Reina is rested or injured. Seemingly available for as little as £1m, this signing makes very good financial sense also. Do Reds fans think that Antti can do a good job at Anfield?
