Manchester United to bid for £15m winger: Could be perfect Ronaldo replacement!
by Mr Comfort on June 29th, 2008As Cristiano continues to screw over his teammates, fans and manager by not so subtly orchestrating a move to Real Madrid, Sir Alex looks to a new hero to fill the Portuguese traitorous boots!
Manchester United have put Germany’s Euro 2008 winger Bastian Schweinsteiger at the top of their hit-list to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.
Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to pounce for the Bayern Munich star if Real Madrid win the titanic tussle for Portuguese ace Ronaldo - but could face competition from Chelsea.£12m-rated Schweinsteiger, 24, has the kind of experience and top-class pedigree that United will need if they lose Ronaldo to his “dream club,” and contact has already been made at the highest level, The People says.
Schweinsteiger, who was also on Chelsea’s radar under Avram Grant’s management and is still interesting the Londoners, would be able to move relatively cheaply. (Lancashire Evening Post)
Some have stated that Bastian would be priced a little higher than in this report at around £15m, either way it’s a fee that Manchester United can more than afford if they do have to offload they’re Portuguese international. The Bayern Munich man seems keen to leave the Bundesliga and a move to Old Trafford would be practically impossible for any player to turn down. The German has turned in some great performances in the Euro and has been one of the stars of the tournament. Do United fans feel Schweinsteiger could be the perfect antidote to a Ronaldo exit or are they’re other players on the market worth investing in?

Couldn’t agree more i think your first description of Ronaldo is spot on, Bastian would be a good addition, and could well do very well for us. I was kind of hoping we would get Sneidjer out of the Real deal but that doesn’t appear to be happening.

I do think Schweinsteiger could do well at United. His delivery is excellent, proven time and time again in Euro 2008. Dangerous freekicks, and a fantastic engine to boot. Good stamina is a must in Premier League, and with such a physical foundation, “Schweini” would surprise many of the Old Trafford faithful with his surging runs and incredible shooting.
There’s plenty of options for United to pursue if Ronaldo actually goes, the income of such a sale would go a long way in securing a qualified replacement, and an additional striker/right back.
I still feel like Ronaldinho is worth the gamble also…

I think he will be a great player to fulfill the right side…i also think that united could gamble on Ronaldiniho…still got plenty left in him…jus needs a good kick up his backside from fergie

I agree with steve. Ronaldinho still has enough gas left in the tank to make an impact at OT. His wage demands may be high, but i reckon united could get him on the cheap, in which Fergie will turn the ‘has been’ back into a star.
Although, i’d still rather but bastian schweinstiger, who fits stereotype role as previous number sevens.

According to Dr. Jurgen Udolph the name ‘Bastian Schweinsteiger’ translates into English as ‘God protects the man who sleeps in the barn with pigs’.
For that reason alone we MUST buy him!!
