Spurs set to win £15m race: Will Ramos beat Chelsea to star signing?
by Mr Comfort on June 29th, 2008Will this Spurs target finally join Juande Ramos’s fast improving squad or will he end up staying up north?
Liverpool are back in the hunt for England star David Bentley - but look set to lose out to Tottenham.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez has contacted new Blackburn boss Paul Ince and told him he wants Bentley.
Liverpool have already made one bid of £12million, but are prepared to meet Blackburn’s asking price of £15million
Benitez is likely to miss out, however, as Bentley prefers a return south having started his career at Arsenal.
And their north London rivals Tottenham remain favourites to sign the 23-year-old midfielder, although Chelsea are also believed to be interested.
Ince may prefer to sell Bentley to Spurs as he can ask for cash plus players as part of the deal. Spurs are prepared to let Aaron Lennon move to Ewood Park, but the Rovers boss may ask for mis-fit striker Darren Bent. (Daily Star)
This saga has run and run but like many other potential deals it seems we are nearing stick or twist time. If Ramos wants Bentley and it does appear to be the case, then he will have no qualms about offering either Bent or Lennon as part of the deal the question is whether Paul Ince will stand in the way of the England international’s desire to move back down south. Do Spurs fans think that Bentley is worth bidding for and if so what should Juande offer Rovers for the former Arsenal man?

As much as i dislike Bentley as a person i do admire him as a footballer but he is still not worth 15m!

Spurs fans dont want him, he is a cock, he is nothing special on the pitch, he can only offer better crossing then lennon, nothing else.
Lennon even tracks back better then him

Chelsea arn’t intrested in him at all! Why the hell would Scolari even take a look at a average English man.

15 million is too much. Lennon will be back next year with better stuff than last. He was injured most of it. Lennon+15m>Bentley.

ramos has already stated that lennon has an importent role to play at the club next season so this story holds no credability. why buy a right sided player and sell the other one, surly bentley will be brought in for competition for lennon.

I heard Bentley wants a return to London because that’s where he’ll get Champions League football. Don’t know how much you can read into this really. The window has just opened and I recogn Bentley would take a pay-cut to get CL football, he’s missed it since been stuck at the Rovers

i think it would a great swap for bent weneed a winger
of his class

Why don’t Spurs just get Morten Gamst Pedersen? He’s probably only half the price, and as good a player.

No No No..the only new winger we need is capel!

this article is crap.
“Liverpool have already made one bid of £12million, but are prepared to meet Blackburn’s asking price of £15million.”
are you kidding me. if your telling me that rafa would rather pay 15 million for an overated 23yr old. . wid a bad attitude rather than go for 22 yr old david silva who is set to leave valencia because of financial difficulties your have got to have nbo idea what you are on about.
now i am not a t all saying that liverpool will buy david silva but i think rafa has more sense then what you portray him to have in this article.
keep in mind that every year rafa always keeps his transfer targets to himself and you never know what he is going to do but i find it highly unlikely that liverpool will sign him. spurs can have him for all i care.

i’d be happy enough with £10m plus lennon. He’s shown no improvement since he came into the team and at some stage you’ve got to stop excusing it by saying he’s young so its ok. Thats one of the things that frustrates me about spurs, its always ‘next season he’ll be better’ or ‘in a couple of years he’ll be world class’. never seems to happen though. Bentley may be a cock but he’s been delivering the goods for a couple of years now and pushing for a place in the england team whereas lennon isn’t even getting in the u21 squad!

I completely agree with Andrew. At what point do we say that Lennon won’t get any better and it’s time to move on? I think we’ve reached that point. Bentley is not that great, but to think that we need an improvement over Lennon is indeed correct, in my view.

That somes it up mate, Lennon’s final ball hasn’t improved in the time he has been at the club so should be moved on… with him in the team we are unable to progress to the next level. Bentley is as you say an improvement on Lennon, lets hope under Ramos he’s attitude will improve.
