Do Newcastle really want money for someone who isn’t even contracted to them?

First came the bombshell that Newcastle United’s flash-Harry contingent will have to pay for their own sartorial needs, now Newcastle are asking for money for a coach that – from today – isn’t contracted to them anymore. Are Newcastle’s finances that bad?
Yep, you read that right, Newcastle are holding up coach Steve Round’s move to Everton as assistant manager because they want some compensation.

The Toffees were given permission to speak to Round, who is currently the first team coach at St. James’ Park, last week after Toon manager Kevin Keegan admitted that he did not want to stand in the way of his coach progressing his career.

And although Everton seem to have reached an agreement with Round, who had to retire early on in his playing career due to injury problems, Newcastle have demanded some monetary compensation for the 37-year-old, and according to reports negotiations have reached a deadlock. (Goal.com)

So are Newcastle being Scrooge-like for holding out for dosh – or are they right to dig their heels in?
