Liverpool player ‘has no idea’ of where he’ll be next season

It’s generally thought that Rafael Benitez wants to challenge for the Premier League title next season, therefore is he making a horrible mistake by not trying to secure the services of Xabi Alonso for at least another season?

Sky Sports reports that the Liverpool midfielder is completely clueless as to where he’ll be plying his trade next season, with Juventus reported to be keen on signing the Spaniard if his current club decide he’s surplus to requirements. It seems slightly uncourteous of Benitez not to speak with his charge about the future, although similar accusations have been levelled by the likes of John Arne Riise and Peter Crouch.

“I’ve no idea [what the future holds]. Right now I’m just thinking about going on holiday, sitting back and relaxing,” he told Guillem Balague’s official website.

“We all need time to sit back and think about what we achieved and to take it all in.

“I’ll be able to think about all that has gone on and what’s going to happen regarding my future later on.

“We’ll see what happens when I get back.”

His cameo appearances during Euro 2008, and the fact he was in the squad in the first place, suggests that this is a player with plenty more to offer Liverpool. Would they be making a mistake by allowing him to leave and does him staying depend on whether the club manage to snare Gareth Barry from Aston Villa or not?
