Newcastle chasing £6m Swiss striker: Surely King Kev wouldn’t be crazy enough to fall for this player!

What in the world is Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan doing now? After weeks of silence on the Geordie front, it appears that the club might finally be prepared to make an offer for a new striker. However, I doubt this is the quality man supporters were dreaming of.

The Telegraph is reporting that King Kev is prepared to make a certain Swiss striker his first signing of the summer. However, there seems to be one big problem: the clubs are still £3m apart in their valuation.

Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan is ready to make Switzerland striker Eren Derdiyok his first signing of his second stint at the club but has told FC Basel to drop their asking price for the 20-year-old player as he is not willing to do business at £6million. (Telegraph)

From the look of things, I think there’s a better chance of Joey Barton becoming the next PM than Newcastle doubling their offer for a player of Derdiyok’s stature. You have to believe that the club has better options out there than this, right? (*cricket sounds fill the COS office*)

Would Newcastle supporters welcome a move for Derdiyok? Or do you think the club would be crazy to spend £3m for a player of this calibre?
