West Ham gunning for £5m Barcelona striker: Can Curbs keep Pompey at bay?
by offsidetrap on July 1st, 2008Whilst it remains to be seen just how many players Barcelona will be getting rid of this summer, the sale of Deco and the rumours surrounding Ronaldinho prove that new boss Pep Guardiola is more than prepared to shake things up at the Catalan club. So it’s no surprise to hear that a certain Barcelona striker could be headed back to London soon enough.
Clubcall is reporting that West Ham are currently holding off Portsmouth in a hotly-contested race to sign Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.
Barcelona new coach Josep Guardiola looks set to rebuild their forward line so it is possible that they may allow him to leave for around the £5m mark.
West Ham boss Alan Curbishley would have no problem funding that sort of move but he would face competition for the striker’s signiture as Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth is also keen on the player. (Clubcall)
Gudjohnsen would be a fantastic signing for West Ham, especially since the Icelandic footballer already knows the ropes of playing in the EPL after his stint with Chelsea. And based on the current £5m number being thrown about, the London club wouldn’t have to break the bank to sign him.
Would West Ham supporters welcome a move for Gudjohnsen? Is he still good enough to help bolster the squad up front?

Probably past his best but has to be better than Cole, Zamora, LBM I expect WH will hang about oo long and miss out as usual, then EG will play for a season under Curbs (if you call sitting on the bench playing) get sick of Curbs as most of WH Faithful are and leave or of course get injured which is the most likely option with Curbs pathetic training methods then we’ll have another season of “its the injuries” excuse week in week out…BG do us all a favour and get rid of Curbishley before he destroys the club

Heard Guddy was linked to Villa and the Hoops as well! Rather he went to Celtic though and not cause they are my love but because the super trio of Aggy, Young and Carew are going to be stronger than ever before next season. But West Ham fans hope you sign him and him and Cole link up together cause both of those players have been heavily linked to the Best side of the Old Firm.

GJF - Why don’t you try actually supporting your club rather than going on every single blog possible to spout out the same old cr*p about Curbs. We all have our doubts about him but it doesn’t look lke it’s going to change for the timebeing so lets just get on with planning for next season now.
You’ve made that point too many times so why not try making another. If possible, keep it relevant to the blog that you’re responding to!!!
