£3m-rated Liverpool man leaves: A long time coming!

Rafa bids farewell to a player who never really made an impact at Anfield.

Liverpool have confirmed they have completed the sale of midfielder Anthony Le Tallec to Le Mans.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at the French club following loan spells with Le Havre, St Etienne, Sunderland and Sochaux.
He has signed a four-year deal with Le Mans, with terms of the transfer undisclosed, and said: “I need stability, a sporting plan, and Le Mans give me this chance.” (Daily Mirror)

Considering La Tallec’s last game in a Liverpool shirt was nearly three years ago in a Champions League qualifier in Wales, I guess this deal will not be a great shock to anyone. In the five years he was contracted to the club, the Frenchman never really displayed a level of talent that could secure him a place in the first-team squad.

The £3m-rated attacking midfielder helped Le Mans continue their forward progress in Ligue 1 whilst on loan, so they clearly see the former Le Havre player as someone who can cement their top flight status. Do Liverpool fans have any abiding memories of Anthony, or has it been so long since he last played that many thought he had already said goodbye to the club?!
