£3m-rated Liverpool man leaves: A long time coming!
by Mr Comfort on July 2nd, 2008 14 commentsRafa bids farewell to a player who never really made an impact at Anfield.
Liverpool have confirmed they have completed the sale of midfielder Anthony Le Tallec to Le Mans.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at the French club following loan spells with Le Havre, St Etienne, Sunderland and Sochaux.
He has signed a four-year deal with Le Mans, with terms of the transfer undisclosed, and said: “I need stability, a sporting plan, and Le Mans give me this chance.” (Daily Mirror)
Considering La Tallec’s last game in a Liverpool shirt was nearly three years ago in a Champions League qualifier in Wales, I guess this deal will not be a great shock to anyone. In the five years he was contracted to the club, the Frenchman never really displayed a level of talent that could secure him a place in the first-team squad.
The £3m-rated attacking midfielder helped Le Mans continue their forward progress in Ligue 1 whilst on loan, so they clearly see the former Le Havre player as someone who can cement their top flight status. Do Liverpool fans have any abiding memories of Anthony, or has it been so long since he last played that many thought he had already said goodbye to the club?!

well he did assist that luis garcia screamer vs juventus in 2005 so i will always thank him for that but otherwise he never lived up to his hype (like most of houlliers young signings) and it was only a matter of time before he was sold.

We never had a really good breeding ground for kids! That was one of the reasons Highway had to go. He never liked working with foreign kids.
To be fair to all the young ones – they never really got the chance. On the other hand remember how Morientes was continually being tried out even when he never hit a shot against goal?
I’am afraid things haven’t changed a lot. We now have excellent young talent and we are loaning them out.
For example Nemeth is being loaned out to Leeds when he should be plying his trade alongside Torres to learn from a professiona.
We have Plessis who was given a run out and then ditched again.

An example of why young players should keep their feet on the ground. He could (still can) be a world class player, but his head is well and truely up his nether regions. Still time lad, show us if you are a man or a mouse. I think you are a mouse though

That’s why I always wait until I’ve seen how a player goes before getting his name on my shirt: I’m getting Hyypiä for this coming season.
