Liverpool and Manchester United to enter fray for Spanish ace: Now this could get interesting!
by offsidetrap on July 2nd, 2008The season hasn’t even started yet, and already Liverpool and Manchester United are preparing to do battle against the other in a fight to sign a very crafty Spanish midfielder.
Spanish rag, Marca, is reporting that the two Premiership clubs are set to jump into the arena with the non-Special One, and tussle for Barcelona midfielder, Xavi.
Inter boss Jose Mourinho has told President Massimo Moratti he wants to sign Barcelona superstar Xavi, while Manchester United and Liverpool are also considering making a move. (Marca)
Xavi was a huge part of Spain’s Euro championship team, so any of the three teams would be more than happy to take the midfield ace off the Catalan giant’s hands. But like all rumours, it still remains to be seen if any of three clubs could meet what would surely be a high asking-price. Liverpool would seem the least likely of the two Premiership teams to make a serious move, since they seem to be set on bringing in Gareth Barry. Manchester United, like Liverpool, seem to be well-covered for the position as well.
Would Man United or Liverpool supporters welcome a move for Xavi? Do you think either could will seriously consider a move for the midfield general?

xavi is a class player and would make any team look good. but unfortunately he is very much a catalan n will never leave barcelona. so this rumour is completely absurd.

Wishful thinking, but Barca are already selling Ronaldinho, Etoo, Yaya Toure, while Zambrotta, Deco and Dos Santos have all already gone. He won’t be going anywhere, and if he does, it’ll be for an extortionate amount - LFC can’t afford and MUFC have already said they’re only making one signing this summer and it’s unlikely to be him.

errr…. NO
This is a joke. Why would Barça sell their “golden boy”? He’s been there since the age of 11. His contract requires a €100million fee (hmm ManU could sell Ronaldo and ….buy Xavi??? hmmm… Liverpool could buy Xavi instead of a new stadium??? - Yeah sure)
And both Liverpool and ManU are not looking for any (more) midfielders.
Who makes up this crap??
Zekk67 - July 3rd, 2008 at 4:24 am
This is crap news as Ferguson already has a congested midfield. He mentioned he only wishes to buy one more player and the best bet would be a right back to replace aging Neville. I seriously doubt Xavi Hernandez playes right back!! Xavi will most probably stay with Barcelona.
