Liverpool line up £34m dream pair: Would be fantastic signings!
by Mr Comfort on July 2nd, 2008Rafa has apparently stepped up the chase for these pair of Dutch masters!
LONDON: Klaas Jan Huntelaar has put the Premier League on red alert after rejecting a new deal with Ajax.
The hitman has refused to agree to a £20mil release clause and the Dutch giants are now open to offers.
Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have all been tracking the 24-year old, who has scored 70 goals in just 82 games for Ajax.
Technical director Danny Blind said: “We have agreed on the fact that Ajax will speak with all clubs that come in for Huntelaar. (The Star Online)
Rafael van der Vaart could be on his way to Liverpool very soon. The midfielder, impressed in the Euro competition but now is looking elsewhere for a club.
Currently playing with Hamburg in the German Bundesliga, it’s been rumored that he is going to join a bigger club in England very soon.
He told BBC, “I’ve had a wonderful time. Hamburg have made me the player that I am. I will always love the fans and everything that this club has given to me. There comes a time when its just right to move on, and I think that moment is now.”
According to BBC Sport, Liverpool have already bid two times for him, with both the offers rejected. With these comments, however, they might be forced to sell him at a lowered price. (lfcglobe.com)
It has been reported that Rafa Benitez has in fact put in a third bid for the Hamburg midfielder who could be a damn good signing and would presumably rule out the need for a mega bid for Gareth Barry. Huntelaar seems destined to leave Holland for a new challenge and the Premier League could be a temptation he could not resist. Do Liverpool fans feel that either of this pair would be good additions to Rafa B’s squad?

What a load of made up shite.

I think they will neesd to sell first, there dont seem to be any money.
· They have taken out a loan of £350m. £105m has been secured against the club and £245m against Kop Holdings – which owns 100% of Liverpool Football Club and has only one source of revenue: The Club.
· So, regardless of the smoke and mirrors, Liverpool Football Club has to pay all of the interest on all of the £350m.
· The interest payments alone for this debt will be around £30m each year. All of which will be payable by Liverpool FC – more than enough to wipe out the club’s operating profit.
· Gillett and Hicks have only taken out this new loan over an 18 month contract. This is very unusual for a deal of this size; three years is the usual minimum term. Wall Street analysts believe that this is because they had difficulty in getting the banks to lend them the money. Which raises questions about:
THE STADIUM
· £60m of that loan has been earmarked for starting construction of the new ground.
· There is no funding yet in place to complete the stadium, nor has planning permission been granted for a 71,000 capacity. Existing consent is for 60,000, with any increase depending upon improvements to transport and car parking. With no underground car park, the new plans have less car parking than the original 60,000 design!
· If they can’t borrow again in 18 months then they cannot complete the stadium. How can they pledge now that the stadium will be built? In the same way they pledged it would be well on its way to completion twelve months ago – by misleading us.
· So do they actually intend to complete the building of the new stadium?
· Should Hicks & Gillett get the loan to actually build the new ground, the additional interest payments will be £25m per year.
· This will leave Liverpool Football Club to shoulder annual payments of £55m in interest alone. Which begs the question:
WHERE WILL THE FUNDS COME FROM FOR TRANSFERS?
· When they took over, Hicks & Gillett promised to back the manager in the transfer market.
· From the two transfer windows Hicks and Gillett have owned the club for, Benitez has spent £48.5m on players, and recouped £33.5m in player sales. A net spend of £15m. This is the up-to-date figure that includes the purchase of Skrtel and the sale of Sissoko.
· The club brought in around £30m from the run to the Champions League Final last season alone. On top of this there is the increased TV money the club’s has received.
· Where is the money Gillett and Hicks have backed the manager with? They’ve lied to us, they’ve manipulated the press, and some people have believed the spin. We won’t.
· In reality, after all the talk about money and Snoogy Doogy, the manager has spent £15m in the last two transfer windows. How is that backing him in the transfer market?

yeah, hicks and gilletts are broke. the money given to rafa cannot be matched with the sum of money given to scolari by chealsea owner. check the list of players wanted by chealsea and you will see that they sign only big name players…

Mr. Comfort. Please, please stop posting these headlines that read:
“SOMETHING is happening. Would be SOMETHING!”
It is a very annoying style and adds little to debate or knowledge. Why don’t you just write some opinion pieces, in your own, natural voice? This journalism thing just isn’t for you.
Thanks

I agree with Dan.
This is just embarrassing. Why not write an opinion piece instead of taking made up rumours from rival sites and re-posting them with a stupid headline?
There are lots of Liverpool related topics you could write opinion pieces on. I’d rather read the opinion of a fellow Liverpool fan, and a discussion, than a ridiculous string of rumours followed by moronic replies written in text speak.
Here are a few topics you might consider:
1. If Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are ahead of Liverpool (which, let’s face it, they are) how close are the other teams to Liverpool and who’s the biggest threat to them getting a Champion’s League place next season? Spurs? Villa? Everton?
2. There’s constant talk of Liverpool needing wingers but it seems that Rafa has moved to this 4-2-3-1 formation and signed two attacking full backs. Do we still need wingers now and wouldn’t that leave Gerrard on his own in the middle?
3. What happened to all these youngsters at the club? If Liverpool sign Barry what does that mean for Lucas and Plesis? What about all the others currently in the reserves. Le Tallec was a fantastic talent when he was signed and the club beat it out of him (preferring Heskey up front) until he left for France. Should they be given a chance to prove themselves a bit more?

Van der vaart wouldn’t suit your style of 442 but if you signed Keane and barry you could do 433 with Torres keane and VDV and mid of Barry masch and SG. Don’t see you signing both Barry and VDV same situation as Keane and Huntelaar, not both only one of each.
Azza Dutt - July 3rd, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Please for the love of god say we sign Huntelaar. Been hoping we will for the past 2 summers, don’t think we’ll sign him though, not with the supposed budget we have.

I dont know why everyone keeps saying that the Yanks are broke, they are actually worth a fortune, but the problem my friends is simple. They do not want to put any of their personal fortunes into the club. However, for obvious reasons they do see the club as an investment (for those who dont see the obvious reasons, its that they would have sold to DIC and the fact they want Parry out). Therefore, I’m quite sure that for purely greedy personal reasons this pair will have the clubs long term interests in mind before hitting the road. So expect increased spending power for the club to sustain our position as a top english side, at least if not for 4 years or so.

I wish you lot would talk sense! Rafa will have plenty of money to spend this summer. Not as much as Chelsea and United mind you….but who will? The Yanks will give him at least £20m, then there’s the money from selling Riise (£4m), Crouch (£11m), Finnan (£1.5m), Itandje (£2m) and Alonso (£15m) - plus saving £70k a week on Kewell - so we’ve got a pot of over £50m! They may even sell Pennant or Benayoun yet, so there’s even more money available. That’s quite enough to buy Barry, Keane and a decent winger. So stop worrying, Rafa will get it right. Just keep the faith!
Ticky - July 11th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
Forgot to mention money for Carson and Guthrie in my last message. So that’s nearly £60m to spend on players then! What’s the problem?
mubaraq - July 22nd, 2008 at 4:35 pm
well i also think the signing of huntelaar will be great if the move of keane is being ruled out.i think rafael van dar vart is also a great player and we need to sign him too.with our defenders too,i dont know but i think rafael knows the best by signing philp and dosena.
mubaraq - July 22nd, 2008 at 4:42 pm
but u know what i dont want us to be in a financial problem so i think we have to sell so we can raise money for the new signings.mr. max i want u to get rid of pennant, riise, voronin, kewell, carson, so that we can bring in someone like huntelaar, barry, van da vart, keane ad maybe bentley.
