Spurs to bid for £9m striker: Is he good enough?
by Mr Comfort on July 2nd, 2008 10 commentsDimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane have both been strongly linked with a WHL exit and, whilst this talk could well be mere tabloid rubbish, clearly JR is looking at alternatives. However is this guy good enough?
Tottenham boss Juande Ramos may be about to launch a £9.5million raid for Espanyol hitman Luis Garcia.
With his current strike partnership of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane reportedly looking to be on the verge of quitting the club, Ramos is keen to bring 27-year-old Garcia to White Hart Lane as a replacement.
He becomes the latest in a long line of potential signings from La Liga linked with a move to north London.
Garcia is rumoured to have a buy out clause in his contract of £19 million, but Tottenham would be reluctant to offer such a vast amount for an unproven striker. (West Essex and East London Guardian)
It does seem highly unlikely that Ramos would lose both his world-class strikers, and that Robbie Keane has reportedly not asked for a move away from White Hart Lane. However JR may well have to plan on replacing Dimitar, as the saga surrounding the Bulgarian seems to continue to simmer. Garcia is not exactly prolific but clearly Spurs’ Spanish boss rates him. Ramos knows the La Liga inside out, so just because he isn’t a household name may not mean he isn’t suitable. Are Tottenham fans worried about the future of their free-scoring strike pairing?

Nah cant see it happening nor do i care. Keane and Berbatov are both under contract for the next 4 years effectively. Spurs need to tell them both, sorry but you’re staying put, end of. I think that Ramos wants to get rid of Berbatov, as good as he is, as he would fetch a pretty penny and Ramos is a genius at getting brilliance out of ordinary players and used to a budget consisting of bits of string and bags of oranges at Sevilla, kind of like the Sam Allardyce of Spain!

Yiddo – AGREED! I think Berba should go, IF Ramos can get his 1st and 2nd choice strikers in. We need another one in up front for cover as it is and having him pulling faces and looking dejected is no good for the younger players at the club! If we can get over 25mil, I’m gain!

Luis Garcia can play as either a winger or striker he is versatile in my opinion very good player. A much better Bent as he plays similar excellent squad addition !!!

Surely we don’t want to replace a world class striker such as Berbs with someone who is largely unproven? I think Berbs will go, and I think it’s probably best he does, but surely we were looking at the correct kind of players when we were linked with Milito or Villa?

btw this isnt ex-Liverpools Luis Garcia nor Zaragoza and Spains Sergio Garcia. This guy is an out and out striker. He IS a good striker but not near the class of our current two (or three for that matter), hes not one of those who’d be able to take over a huge responsibility as ours

The guy isn’t Spurs quality never mind Espanyol quality. Silly equation by Ramos.
