Arsenal in ‘cunning’ plan to land £15m star: What a player!
by Mr Comfort on July 3rd, 2008Arsene Wenger is very astute when it comes to dealing with the transfer merry-go-round and apparently his mind games regarding this potential signing are putting Arsenal at the head of the chasing pack.
ARSENE WENGER has been dubbed ‘a cunning fox’ in his hunt for wily Russian Andrei Arshavin.
The Arsenal boss is leading the £15million chase for Euro 2008 star Arshavin, according to the striker’s club Zenit St Petersburg.
Zenit official Dennis Lakhter said: “Arsene Wenger is a cunning fox.
“In the morning he says Arshavin will play all the time at his club and during the day he says he doubts the capabilities of Andrei to play three games in a row at the highest level.
“But this is a tactic to fool the competition.
“He calls Andrei a Tsar and then tries to deny interest in the player.”
Arshavin has snubbed a £3.9m-a-year Zenit deal.
Lakhter said Arsenal and Barcelona have made approaches with the Gunners “the most active”. (The Sun)
The ball is very much in Andrei’s court now. Barcelona appear to mean business this summer as they look to spend big and sell off a great deal of top quality talent, they have already spent an incredible 23.5m on Daniel Alves and intend to add a great many other players before La Liga kicks off. Arsenal also appear to have snagged one talented attacker in Samir Nasri so if Wenger can also pull off this signature it would be a huge boost to their title hopes. Do Arsenal fans feel that Arshavin could be a Gunners legend if he was to move to the Emirates?

Na, I hope we don’t get him. He don’t fight when the going gets tough, not a big game player.
BEARDY - July 3rd, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Arsenal already have good attacking players when all fit, just really need a Godzilla of a defender then will win league.

he aint comin… roman abramovich wants some russians in his team… so however bad arshavin plays chelsea will foolishly spend big money on him…
wenger will nicely set up arshavin n other guys who are usually 1 season wonders for the other richer clubs who dont are searching for ways to spend money n go for the really gifted youngsters at a cheaper price… wenger’s pilicy is if u can do it the cheaper way.. y spend big?? nice policy wenger… hope it wins us cups this season though…

this kid is not a great player.he’s an anelka kind of person.let chelsea have him, even merida will do a better team job than he will.
Tricky - July 3rd, 2008 at 6:53 pm
He only had two good games. For f sake, nobody ever heard about him before, it would be different if he was 21 but he’s 27. I think the game against Spain really showed his true colours (i.e not good enough to play at the top). And yes I know he was brilliant against Holland but in fairness how many of their players can you name with the exception of their high profile players.
Tricky - July 3rd, 2008 at 6:54 pm
P.S I would love to see him at Chelsea, and for them to get rid of Lampard. Nothing next year again ha ha
lovs2spooge - July 3rd, 2008 at 7:12 pm
I’m not too sure about him either he’s 27 how come he’s only coming to prominence recently
RayGooner - July 3rd, 2008 at 7:34 pm
For those who hadn’t heard of him before, he “WON” the UEFA Cup for Zenit by beating teams like Bayern Munich, Leverkusen, Rangers and others…
He was the master of all these games…
He’s a very good football player and reason why he didn’t do more than 2 good games in the EURO were that first of all he was suspended for the first 2 games…so he could only play 3 games in total, and were WORLD CLASS in 2 of them, (except for the majority of the spanish team, can you name one player out of every other team that were WORLD CLASS in 2 games…?

Id love to do you up the shitter, big boy.I think while im pumping away you might actually be able to think a little clearer and write some sense.
RayGooner - July 3rd, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Only reason why none of you had heard of him before the Euro’s is that you only watch the big leagues & big cups…and that Russia hasn’t been good for some years…
Arshavin has been World Class for 3-4 years now, it’s only now you get to see him….
My wife is Russian, so i get to watch russian TV a lot, and i’ve seen a lot of football there, i’ve been hoping that Wenger would sign him for a couple of years now…
Trust me guys, he will be worth it!
aNaKIN99 - July 3rd, 2008 at 7:45 pm
RayGooner,
why you watch russia football……..id be pumping away at tat eastern block …….. know what i mean arry.
~=O_GUNNER_O=~ - July 3rd, 2008 at 8:12 pm
RayGooner is right, because most people watch the big leagues they think the world revolves around them. Arshavin would be a good addition to Arsenal, EASTERN BLOCK 4 LIFE! Hope we get rid of that cocksucker Adebayor, enough with the back stabbing players. Arsene makes them players and they spit at his face.
lovs2spooge - July 3rd, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Saying he’s world class in Russia is like saying Stylian Petrov or Chris Sutton were world class when playing in Scotland. He is a fine player granted , but we have better in our exsisting squad. I reckon he has an attitude problem did you see much of that in his league matches.
lovs2spooge - July 3rd, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Beardy is spot on too we need a bit more steel in our team.
PIRES - July 3rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
HE REALY IMPRESSED ME EARLY IN THE TOURNAMENT BUT THAN AGAINST SPAIN I STARTED TO DOUBT HIS ABILITY TO PRODUCE IN CRUCIAL TIMES AND AT THE MOMENT WE NEED A DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER AND A DEFENDER THAN KEEP THOSE TWO WHO WANT MONEY BEFORE WE CAN TALK ABOUT MORE ATTACKERS.
PIRES - July 3rd, 2008 at 9:00 pm
LET HIM COME WE,LL MAKE HIM A MUCH BETTER PLAYER THAN HE IS.
lovs2spooge - July 3rd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Defence should be a priority, we score goals from all angles. I’d happily take Senna (even though that looks scuppered now) and also Richard Dunne he’s class and i would love to have a fellow Irishman at the club.
sdhh - July 3rd, 2008 at 10:43 pm
arshavin is a great player, none of u heard about him cuz news from russia are negelcted, and noone watches russian league. And he was the mastermind behind the UEFA cup trophy. And stop saying he’s crap cuz he played bad against spain!! Everyone has a shitty day/game once in a while. How many times have we seen Ade miss chance after chanse and no one said he’s crap after just 1 shitty performance. Anyway, sell Ade, shit 25M - 30M for the greede “I’m-better-than-Henry-and-Eto’o”dude?!?! easy money for 1 season star… He’s got his head so far up his ass now, he will suck nesxt season, he thinks he is the only reason arsenal are among top four now…
abhishek - July 4th, 2008 at 4:02 am
wenger is not gettin him…distracting attention of clubs to him is his plan. wenger will never get him lol…cant believe we gooners are talkin about him. other clubs always look up to wenger’s potential signings…its a game this time. wenger has finally understood the ‘cunning’ clubs. what an *ss*ole the agent of ashshit hes callin wenger cunning where him and other clubs are cunning if we really see it. the agent jus wants more money, so hes getting all the attention he can get, like a pretty girl. go wenger go arsenal go get the premiership crown

Arshaven will be at Arsenal next season and will do very well within the style of play within our team. 27 is fine we need a bit of maturity at the team, ok he had a quiet game against spain (so what) Weger knows what he is doing.
Adeby fuck of to Barca for 30 mill we will have Eto thank you very much and put him up front with Ashavin. Also hlep fuck off and we will take ya ya toure to give cesc a dig out in mid field. Having the Toure brothers would be a master stroke, moral would be high in the camp.
Why hasnt Arsen gone for Richard Dunne for god sake, its a no brainer, he practically kept Man City in the top half of the table single handedly.
He would cost only around 6 or 7 mill we could afford his wages, we have the connection there with Liam Brady and the Irish National Team.
We Need this type of tough mother of a central defender
Spurs fan - July 4th, 2008 at 7:58 am
Iv never really disliked arsenal as much as some spurs fans as the clubs that piss me off more are teams like newcastle and everton who think they are big clubs so id like to think i was looking at this fairly. This would be a huge waste of money for you lot id say with walcots development perhaps he could play on the right of your midfield if im honest would be a better deal to get shaun wright phillips in for about half that price he would be as good as arashaaravavin or watever the fuck his name is ! I do think you lot need to sure up your defence a bit perhaps someone like Richard dunne and with a defensive precense in midfield such as Veloso I think you could win the league but only if you sign -
a decent winger (not araashavin)
Another striker perhaps with more experience so adebyor can become even more class as he has the potential.
A tough nut of a central defender (Richard Dunne)
and finally a good Defensive midfielder (Veloso, Gattuso) or maybe more of a holding player such as garreth barry if he doesnt sign for liverpool though he is a spurs fan !
james kamau - July 4th, 2008 at 8:56 am
congrats arsenal for the new signings and i do hope we shall achieve something this round after all that however the defence also needs so improvements in have really loose hope with Gallas after a terrible defeat in the euro cup so wenger must do something
sooli - July 4th, 2008 at 9:21 am
Caughtoffside, would you please be more creative with your headlines, and choose phrases other than “what a player he could be” or “what a signing this could be”? You are getting very boooooring, and relying too much on rumours, I liked you before much more than now.
aNaKiN99 - July 4th, 2008 at 9:47 am
While We discuss this arshavin is already packing his bags to finalize a deal @ stamford bridge… Im quite sure he wont come to arsenal and Im also confident that he aint in Wenger’s plans for the next season… Wenger’s just nicely setting him up for clubs like barca and chelsea…
he wont be going for any major signings from now on and will look to promote guys playing in the reserves… he’s already stated that 6 of our reserves will be fighting for a place in the 1st team next season wherin they’ll be played in the carling and FA cup… but if arsene needs to sign someone now it has to be a good CB…
Senderos,Hoyte n djouru aint up to the mark and its a risk trusting them to get the job done in the big games in case gallas n toure pick up an injury or lose their form…We also shouldnt have a season where we’ll have to use a midfielder like gilberto playin as a CB in the team…
Hope wenger realizes this sooner than later…
samtheman - July 4th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
people people: micah richards is a gooner. hes the one. and ashvin wont play with eto. van perise will go with adebayor. if he leaves for 30 million pounds wenger will show what hes good at. we played some amazing football last year. people forget too fast the players we have. walcott is set to explode, merida and vela are looking very good. i remember i read somewhere where wenger said we have 15-17 year olds with technically nothing to learn. just need to build them into godzillas. if ronaldo goes i think the title is ours for sure. chelsea are clogged with players. no room for them all to be happy and it will show. crespo just left haha. £1 million a game. im waiting for diaby to step up that lil bit he has amazing dribbling skills. hes 90% there. physically he could dominate any apponent for 90mins. we gooner be alright!!!

Idiot. So what you are saying is no other player is capable of scoring 24 goals in the league…that’s bollox. You obviously know nothing about Arsenal’s style of football.
The amount of opportunities to score, being provided by our midfield, means Ade’s 24 goals (although impressive) could also come from other team members if he wasn’t playing.
What you are saying is if Ade isn’t playing, none of our other forwards would have scored in his place. You are a tool. A completed wank stain retarded fool.
JPM - July 4th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Handbags! Talk about over reaction. Maybe I touched a nerve.
‘What you are saying is if Ade isn’t playing, none of our other forwards would have scored in his place’ - Out of your forwards last season I doubt any of them would have netted 24, Ed broke his leg. That leaves Van P who was touch and go, Bentdner who by arsenals standards is very average. Walcott can just about hit a barn door, plus other injuries.
It was not a knock at Arsenal or the good football they play, just a well justified statement. If he was out last season things could have clearly been very different. TIT!
aNaKiN99 - July 4th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
JPM:
now come on dude… how many ppl expected arsenal to finish 3rd after henry’s departure??? very few… before ade it was henry who used to do the bulk of scoring… once he left we all thought arsenal are doomed… but wenger dint give up so easily… he just gave ade the no 1 striker status… n he scored 24… if ade wud have been injured it wud have been a totally different issue… but with the kinda midfield we have we can put anyone in his place n get goals… n bendtner cant be ruled out by his performance in just 1 season… he has tremendous potential…remember he dint get as many starts as ade… if ade leaves then bendtner will more than efficiently n effectively fill his shoes…. walcott is surely gonna explode this season… n if rvp stays fit then the premiership is ours… TIT!
JPM - July 4th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Listen people: All i said was ‘If Ade was out last season things could have clearly been very different’. LAST SEASON - Your now banging on about next season! I never said Arsenal were finished if Ade leaves. I just stated the fact that without him last season you would have struggled to hold onto a top four spot.
Anyway I would love to continue this but the weekends calling. Thanks for the banter! Its been fun! TIT! lol..

I Agree Totally
I Have Also Seen Alot Of Arshavin before The Euro’s In The UEFA Cup And In The Russian League And He Is Top Quality!
He Makes So Many Goals And He Can Also Score Them Aswell…
Perfect Replacement If Hleb Goes But Like To See Him Come And Hleb Stay Anyway. Him And Nasri Will Be Great Signings Then We Will Just Need A CM!
Sandhu - July 5th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
arsenal dosn’t need him….i wish dat wenger just adds to his list of defenders………
