Pompey boss prepared to give Liverpool striker one last shot: Will £10m do the trick?
by offsidetrap on July 3rd, 2008My how things can change in just one week! If you recall, last week Pompey boss Harry Redknapp made it clear to anyone willing to listen that his £6m offer for Liverpool striker Peter Crouch was as high as he was willing to go. He wasn’t going to be dragged through the mud for a lanky Crouchigol robot!
Well seven days later it appears that Redknapp is still a man of his word. He’s still not going to pay more than…oh…wait…apparently Redknapp isn’t afraid of the mud after all! The Daily Mirror reports that Harry found another four million quid in his seat cushion that he’d like to add to a FINAL bid (if you really believe him now) for the Liverpool man.
Portsmouth will make a final £10m bid for Liverpool striker Peter Crouch. (Daily Mirror)
Judging by the big names Rafa has on his wish list, it would seem to be in the goateed-one’s best interest to make sure this deal got done. Nobody with a brain is going to pay the £15m valuation for Crouch, so why not get the most for him now and use some of it to finalize a deal for Gareth Barry. Now THAT would make sense!
Are Liverpool supporters fine seeing Crouch leave for £10m? Do you think he’s really worth his £15m pricetag?

No to Pompey. If Spurs are interested, might as well use Crouch as a make-weight for R. Keane. Hate managers who contradicts himself. Are the papers going to crucify Redknapp for that? NO. It has to be Benitez’s fault again, no doubt.

Surely we will need crouchy next season ,although not going to start every game will still play a big part, its a squad game .I think when he actually thinks it through then he will stay,he has the chance here of achieving things, why would he go to a silly little club like portsmouth which would be a huge step backwards .
Zigg zagg - July 3rd, 2008 at 8:03 pm
mick is a prick
stan - July 3rd, 2008 at 8:08 pm
he would make a great signing. come on pompey!
Brett - July 3rd, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Silly little club? We won the F.A Cup. The only thing that is silly and little is your brain, Mick! Havant & Waterlooville nearly kicked your boys out of it at Anfield. Don’t go thinking you’re too big when you actually won sweet F.A last season! We even beat you in the final of the Asia Cup in pre-season. AND we let you play Torres when he wasn’t registered to play.
It’s a shame there are supporters like you Mick in Liverpool, you bring the decent image of your club down with silly little comments like that…

Shawn you need to realise that no manager shows their full hand during transfer negotiations especially Redknapp. Mick your living in cloud cookoo land. “Silly old Portsmouth” are FA Cup holders, in EUFA next season and will certainly guarrentee Crouch a first team constistant starting place.
With one year left on his contract £10 million is plenty, and Crouch has already stated he wants to leave, Fratton is his preferred destination and will leave on free next summer if necessary. Watch this space Rafa will bite Redknapp’s hand off.
David Villa - July 3rd, 2008 at 9:11 pm
sell him for 10million good deal - then buy me!!
den - July 3rd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
fuck off mick
hughconnolly - July 4th, 2008 at 1:26 am
mick is right it would be big step backwards but we we should sell 10 mill and get R. Keane to help win the league this year
Rush - July 4th, 2008 at 6:08 am
crouch has done well for liverpool. hate to see him leave.
i don’t think we’ll get villa and i doubt barry will make a huge impact for the club. liverpool needs someone to create openings for torres and draw defenders. barry isn’t the guy we need.
crouch for barry is not a good deal. keane isn’t a bad option if we go 4-4-2, but 4-5-1 has been working well last season. not sure if rafa is going to change that though. if we are just going to use 1 striker, torres will always start before keane. so keane would be in the same situation as crouch last season. keane is a scorer. putting him on the wings would be a waste.
unfortunately, voronin has no value for sale. pennant draws limited interest from other teams. crouch is the only person that we want to sell and with some value. so i think crouch will not be in red next year.

Mick - you are a fool.
Portsmouth are an improving team, who managed to win a major trophy last year …. and I for one hope they do well in the UEFA Cup.
Oh, and by the way, I support Liverpool too …. but there are more deserving clubs tahn Portsmouth if you want to start throwing insults about !!
dean - July 4th, 2008 at 8:45 am
WELL…FROM MY OPINION…15MIL…WORTH ENOUGH…FAIR PRICE…
dean - July 4th, 2008 at 8:48 am
for me…torres will paired with keane…and liverpool supposed to find good winger…barry is worth buying…can replace alonso…this will give backup for the team if injury prob arise…
david elnino - July 4th, 2008 at 11:00 am
the transfer market is doing my head in 4real………..ok if barry is being sold to us for £18 million, shouldnt it be the same price for crouchie if not more, he’s scores goals, the biggest part of football, and like barry, he’s an england international. so why should we have to pay £8 million more for barry than sell for crouch?? its f**ked up
am i on my own with this thought!
JPF - July 4th, 2008 at 11:15 am
david elnino - Yeah, you are on your own, Barry is now a first choice England international who is the hub of his club, Crouch is a third choice striker who doesn’t get in your first team. Beside’s you guys WANT to sell Crouch, which drives his price down, if we’re being honest Barry is a much better player, hence the value, typical dippers on the rob…….
JPF - July 4th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Oh yeah, and Crouch is coming into the last year of his contract, so he can for free next summer, 15 million quid my arse.
Fearon - July 4th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
I support liverpool and Crouch and 15million should never be in the same sentence! Unless your talking about how much the lanky prick will have to pay on plastic surgery to stop looking like such a cunt! Fuck off you lanky, jizz-guzling arsehole!
JPF - July 4th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Oh yeah, and I don’t like Crouch because he’s a big ungainly mong, whereas I find Gareth Barry very dishy indeed - all the above factors lead to the extra £8m for dashing Gaz Baz and his yummy balls
lfc4eva - July 4th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
i would rather ave crouch ova barry anyday
Joe Gallagher - July 5th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Are Pompey fans here seriously comparing their team to Liverpool? Of course it’s a step back for Crouch, but at least he’d get more football.
Sell at £10 million, then use the money to finance a move for the best striker from this part of the continent, Robbie Keane.
