Liverpool manager tells Villa that £15m is the final offer for midfielder ace: Take it or leave it, Martin!
by offsidetrap on July 4th, 2008The all-knowing rag that is The Sun is reporting today that Rafa Benitez has had enough of Villa boss Martin O’Neill and his childish games, and has told the Birmingham club that if they want to make a profit, they better be prepared to take the current £15m deal plus additional clauses or watch the Anfield club walk.
Liverpool will not pay the £18m Aston Villa want for Gareth Barry but will include add-on clauses to the £15m bid for the midfielder. (The Sun)
It appears that Rafa isn’t playing around any longer. This whole Barry to Liverpool saga has gone on far enough, and from the looks of things, the tug-of-war battle going on between the two managers isn’t going to end anytime soon. It’s gotten to the point where the story is now the subject of a comic strip.
Do Liverpool supporters still believe that Gareth Barry will be part of their squad this season? Do Villa supporters think Martin should £15m and buy some new talent? Or should he stay firm at £18m?
We're giving you £25 free so show some bollocks and BET NOW!

I say we just keep Alonso. We can get David Silva for around £15m who, imo, is a way better player than Barry
bigjohn - July 4th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Fuckin liverpool, who the fuck do they think they are,”thats our final offer”.I pray Oniell and Lerner tell them to stick their money up their fuckin dirty scouse arseholes. They cant just come tapping players up,unsettling them causing all sorts of shit and then say thats all were offering.
I hope StephenGerrard breaks his fuckin legs and never plays again the poncey scouse cunt.
shawn - July 4th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Apparently David Silva isn’t going anywhere and he had penned a 7-year deal last season. So, £15 is unrealistic to get Silva into the reds of ‘pool.
chaz - July 4th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
ye £15 is a bit of a low bid seeing as most pundits rate him well into the millions
chaz - July 4th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
I think that is the max!

Silva and Barry are comepletely different players. I really dont think that Rafa will go over £15m, and I hope he doesn’t, it’ll save him countless millions on other deals where people try and take the piss. O’Neill has proved himself a bit of a wopper. I believe Diarra’s alright though not seen much of him? He like Essien?
Jonster - July 4th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

There is a certain romance about playing for Liverpool? yeah stevie G and his bumchum barry like to room together for england :S

dont give a toss about Okneel hope he does get shat on ,BUT what about GB? dont want to see him left hanging just cause his manager’s hormonal i bet if he comes to LFC he’ll play outa his skin especially against brum villians. that would be sweet revenge. just sort it out please this has become embrassing by asscociation.

Rafa, Once more with feeling….£18m….Put up or Shut up, you twat!..Up the Villa!
Messiah - July 4th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Yep, Rafa sucks at negotiating (when buying) and mind games (Drogba V Liverpool springs to mind), I do feel Villa would’ve said yes to £15 million had Rafa not made it all public and started a mini feud, but now that O’Neil is annoyed he’s not gonna do Liverpool any favours, 18 million and by the looks of things Rafa is going to buckle as he’s made such a meal of things and pay it, as a United fan, i’d like him to go to Liverpool as Alonso is class despite a dip in form.
dee - July 4th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Benitez has clealry f*****d up and screwed Barry’s career through bungling. He’s ruined Liverpool’s reputation as a professional outfit and made them a joke amongst fans. He’ll either pay way over the odds for Barry or not sign him at all. MON has behaved like the true profesional he is. What a credit to football. Dignity throughout, even when faced with an utter sh!t. Liverpool must envy the Villa so much.
Norwegian Villan - July 4th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
“Rafa Benitez has had enough of Villa boss Martin O’Neill and his childish games”.
Who is childish here, benitez? You have been told what Barry costs. He is available at 18m. YOU have been childish in your way on trying to get Barry from Villa.
Pay what he is worth, the english captain!

In response where is the story taken from the scum, enough said. In response to villarich wise up why should we pay 18 million? O’Neill’s refusal to budge make him seem a petty little kid, is Barry any better than Masherano? Of course he is not, he’s not in the same class and furthermore the only one who should shut up is the one who is doing all the talking, Martin O’Neill.

1) Why on earth would any Liverpool supporter be jealous of Villa? Are you being serious? 2) For your information, thats not how Liverpool conduct themselves, we keep everything in-house until its nearly done, look at Babel and Torres last season, the reason this has turned out like this is not Rafas fault, it was leaked to a Brummie news paper when someone at YOUR end got a hold of the fax!
mp05 - July 4th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
15 mil is plenty, this whole thing is villa’s fault, they leaked it, then oneil commented by sayin that livepool made an offer of mis-mash players and futher to say on motd that barry wants to leave ! all he had to say was no comment from the beginning and all this could’ve been avoided.
cali vil - July 4th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
you pool fans who think oniel is shit, look at the stats, been there 3 years and villa have dropped the most places from like 16th, to 11th, to 6th. and rafa?? and those who think that barry is no good then you must not have trust in you coach because he thinks we will be good with the team, he coaching them, see’s them at all the trainings, who do you know he wont work in your squad?
but the final point is this.
there is a price for him. pay it, or stop talking.

there are some real tossers commenting on here that MON is behaving like a real pro cause he is trying to hold rafa to ransom.what crap..lets see if he takes the 15? if not ..so what..id like to see GB in the red but i dont mind waiting to jan and by that time maybe MON will have to admit that 15 is a good offer for someone who doesnt want to play for you…hey well maybe get him for 10 by then…..I can sympathise with villa fans as i can remember when m.owen left for madrid also mcmanaman..it happens to everyone..so stop thinking your too big for it to happen to you.just accept it and stop fucking moaning on about it.and as for our reputation being in question over this affair…i think its been villa who have let themselves down by dragging this out in the press not LFC….
Sam - July 4th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Cali Vil- ONeill has dropped from 16th to 6th in the league, Benitez has won a European Cup, the FA Cup, been to the Champions League Final and been to the Semis. ONeill won the league with Celtic which even Mickey Mouse could do, Benitez won la Liga with Valencia in the face of the millions that Barcelona and Real Madrid spend. He has finished 3rd twice, 4th and 5th in England in the face of the Millions that Chelsea and United spend. ONeill’s record does not stand up to Benitez’ record so shut your moaning and whining that your captain wants to join a club who consistently challenge for honours. When new teams come up they dream of playing at the Emirates, Old Trafford and Anfield, not Villa Park, the only big games you have there are when you play us, United and when FA Cup semi finals take place. Villa revealed the bid in the press, the Birmingham Post I believe it was, not Liverpool, get your facts right and get used to the idea that we always have been and always will be a bigger club than you.
broadlee - July 4th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Who th F**** is LPool and Rafa? if you can’t afford it, or don’t rate him that high enough then P*** off Villa obviously don’t need your money and you can’t and arn’t big enough to bully anyone outside the top three.. accept it.. 4th was a struggle last season and it aint gonna be any easier next either.. we blues will take it next year
Pokopite - July 4th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
15m is the final offer. yeah i rather keep xabi.i think rafa will have his transfer kitty to attract one of the davids (villa or silva). forget about barry. let him play for villa with half his heart out for them and the other half for liverpool. good luck u villan.. try topple everton first before even dare dreaming challenging us u shitty… hey u villlan who played as ur keeper last season?

Villa - July 4th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
you don`t remember the name Carson? he is actually your player, you know. And also remember that your best player, gerrard, wants Barry to play for `pool.
and for the O`neill vs Benitez thing. Was your manager ever linked with the England-job? Our manager was, and he said no, thanks. Thank you for that O`neill. Good luck next season, liverpool. and I mean that. May the best team win.
Pokopite - July 4th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Well try next season playing without him.. Yeas anybody can be linked to england job.. that mean ur MON is at par with Steve Mclaren who won errr did he ever won any cup? or did he bring england to euro 2008? heheh end up managing club in holland… stupid … we dont want barry at shit price!
Villa - July 4th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
O’neill has made himself look an arsehole over this whole situation.
We should now pull out of this deal & keep alonso .
Let o’neill have a disgruntled player on the books which will upset their whole pre-season & beyond coz hes far too childish to sit down & sort it out.
Thank god he aint liverpool manager!
Listening to his bumbling opinions on euro “08″ shows what a two bob manager he is.
he’ll be lucky to finish mid table with a disconsolate Barry in the dressing room.
hes not worth 18million & thats the plain fact.
Just because hes villas best player doesnt put 5m on his value
piss off back to celtic o’neill where its a 2 team league
Villa - July 5th, 2008 at 12:12 am
haha….
you dont want barry? ok with us. But your manager wants him, and your best player..
we didn`t want to buy Carson for 10m, so we backed off. If you dont wanna pay 18m for Barry, so back off. its as easy as that! have a nice summer!
chrisb - July 5th, 2008 at 12:21 am
What does a scouser do when he wants a pair of £100 jeans but only has £90? simple, he nicks them. And that is exactly what LFC are trying to do here like their fans did in Athens against their own supporters.
As for keeping things in house at Anfield…? Any red scouse fans actually remember last season..KLinsmann for liverpool, HIcks and Gilette blah, blah. What a fkin disgrace of a club-cant wait for August 30th.
koppaloadofthis - July 5th, 2008 at 12:32 am
Lets face it we have messed up this transfer big time. Our divided boardroom and our debts mean we can’t afford the asking price so we have resorted to underhand tactics for Barry, Milner and Keane. We are becoming a joke. We seem to want to sign everybody whether they are available or not BUT we aint got the money . What we have got is some ordinary players and we are asking top prices for them but there are few takers cuz other managers know we have no cash but wse are desparate to sign to close the widening gap between us and MU and Chelski. As a scouser I ignore the comments tossed at us. Unfortunately Rafa is giving them some substance.
Kane - July 5th, 2008 at 1:43 am
Fed up of reading this l/pool are shit, Villa are shit, our manager is bigger than yours ZZzzzzzz Personally as a Villa fan i want Barry out but if Villa rate him at 18m thats the price, simple pay it or don’t, no need for these rants about each others clubs! If no one buys stick him in the reserves until a full apology by him is made if not he can kiss his England career goodbye, no skin off my nose!
shawn - July 5th, 2008 at 1:46 am
You are joking, right? koppaloadofthis. Rafa is not giving the papers anything? Have you seen the sports page lately and the internet? Liverpool are linked to any and every player available and it’s all unproven facts from the papers. So, is that the managers fault? No, it’s the writers’. Shut up, you’re making yourself look bad and don’t tell anyone you support the reds.

The questions that needs to be asked is:
Is Barry is worth 18m?
Is he better than Alonso at that price?
Can we buy better for 18m?

jebote - July 5th, 2008 at 6:38 am
i wish all you villa fans would just shut up. you all talk shit. you and your unprofessional manager want 18 million for barry and the oonly reasons you can come up with this evaluation is that he is your club captain and is a quality international. thats shit. 15 million is what you’ve been offered and i think you should take it. barry is turning 28 soon, would like a move to liverpool and still you carry on and on about paying up or shutting up. let me remind you.
thierry henry last year captain of arsenal and one of if not the best player ever to play in the premier league at age 29 was sold for 16 million to barcelona and arsenal fans although dissapointed wish him luck and off he went.
for me you can’t compare them because of there positions. but i think at arsenal henry played his position better than what barry does. henry is a regular member of the france squad who over the past 10 years have been one of the most succesful international teams. he was at his peak and still arsenal were happy to let him go for 16 million.
and you idiots want 18 million + for your club captain and english international. who yes is also at his peak. why cant you guys who leaked the story of benitez’ offer and then blamed liverpool for conducting themselves in an inapropriate manner, just let barry go for what has been offered.
yes barry is a great playe that has done your club proud but come on 18 million is a bit much. so why dont all you villafans calm down and accept the fact that15 million is a good offer.
P.S Martin o’neill is a dickhead. he is the unprofessional manager not benitez.
Rdunbar - July 5th, 2008 at 6:41 am
This is the same scenario as Carson, Crouch and Alsonso.
Your manager has said the asking price is……in Carsons case £10mil, his words were Villa know the price take it or leave it.
The same applies here Fatty Benitez knows the price he has to pay for Barry, £18 mil, and the same priciple applies. But no, because your club is skint he can not meet the price, and is trying every underhand tatic he can.
I have lost all respect for your club over this, and that includes Gerrard as well over his comments.
Your former great managers will be turning in their graves over the way Benitez and Gerrard have behaved over recent months.
They were all Gentlemen and behaved as such.

VillaBob - July 5th, 2008 at 8:05 am
Liverpool are without doubt at fault for all of this, it was “leaked” to the Liverpool Echo that Liverpool wanted Barry, though it was obvious frmo his interviews around the time that he had been contacted & unsettled.
Its the way the so called big 4 do there business. Man U have done it for years as have Liverpool.
Liverpool have stirred the hornets nest & stepped back waiting for the fall out & expecting Villa to cave in & accept whats been offered. Un fortunately it has back fired as Villa have a chairman with true wealth & can afford to say no, where as the Liverpool board are not in the same league & have left Liverpool to be embarrassed by the whole situation.
I can see Man U, Chelsea & Arsenal looking at this with some satisfaction as Liverpool are showing they cannot afford 1 major summer signing.
Such a pity as Liverpool were the bench mark through the 80’s into the early 90’s. Now just a poorly run club with a tarnished reputation.
jobless_scouse_dole_scrounger - July 5th, 2008 at 8:18 am
Makes me laugh all these people saying villa will have a pissed off captain who doesnt want to play….. well the fact is, if he does play then he has to play f***ing well because he will be out of the england squad simple as that. No good performances, no england place.
Also the price is 18 million……which bit of that is hard to understand?? Not 10, not 12, not 15 but 18….ONE EIGHT. If Liverpool can’t afford this….walk away and villa will keep Barry. On the other side, they could also get some late interest from chelsea, man U, Arsenal and BArry can get his champions league wish that way.
ALso Villa don’t need the money so they don’t have to take lower bids. They are the only premiership club to have a charity name on their shirts this season so they have rejected millions in sponsorship deals and sponsored the local charity ACORNS.
ruprec - July 5th, 2008 at 8:35 am
well villa dont have much choice now, barry has pushed villa and talked shit about them, theres noway he can play for them next year. so im guessing theyll have to take the bid, becasue no one else is dum enough to offer this guy this much, absoloutly ridiculous money for a guy like this. but im still strugging with what they hell is wrong with keeping alonso, he’s probalbly better then vill, there fairly identical players, why go so much trouble for a player when u have a carbon copy already on your books.

Anyone who has watched Barry play for England in the last 3-4 games and knows football will also know how good a player he is. never lost the ball kept it simple, calmed the play down, scored a goal and set one up for Gerrard with a slide rule pass he was englands best player…! If barry leaves the villa it will be a loss to them if he goes to L Pool they have an excellent player who will make a big difference. If he stays at villa ,which now looks likely, he will play after a few games a missed and it will be villa gain and l Pools loss, pay the money or keep harry kewell UTV
tinker - July 5th, 2008 at 9:21 am
“They are the only premiership club to have a charity name on their shirts”
Question is should the charity be “Liverpool FC” instead of “acorns”
jebote - July 5th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Rdunbar: This is the same scenario as Carson, Crouch and Alsonso.
Your manager has said the asking price is……in Carsons case £10mil, his words were Villa know the price take it or leave it.
in carson’s case at the start of the 07/08 season both liverpool and villa agreed that after the season had finished that for villa to keep carson they were to pay liverpool 10million for his services. then at the end of the season MON said no we’re not going to pay that lower your price or you can keep him. and your here saying that liverpool is skint well what about your club. why does MON ‘need’ 18million? why did he refuse to pay 10 million for carson when rafa and him had already made a deal on it?
please don’t go around saying shit about other clubs when you don’t no enough about yours.
DANCEOFTHESHAMEN - July 5th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Having read all of the above comments i have to say there are a lot of KEY facts which have been conveiniently ommited.
Firstly a few Liverpool fans are saying that Martin O’Neill is being childish which as a Villa fan i have to say it does appear so BUT….. He is in fact being pedantic i.e. deliberately being difficult, & the reason for this is obvious but appears to have been forgotten… It is because Liverpool deliberately & quite appallingly tried to de-rail Villa’s push for the UEFA cup. This was done by bidding for Barry THE DAY BEFORE our home game with Wigan which, had we won, would have put us in a very strong position & could easily have gotten us into the UEFA cup. Rafa obviously knew that this would significantly reduce his chances of getting Barry.
A lot has been said on this bid being “leaked” to the press.. firstly it was supposed to be to the Liverpool Echo & then later, FOLLOWING A STATEMENT BY THE LIVERPOOL ECHO was said to have been leaked to the Birmingham press. .. Well i ask you all this…
1. Who stood to gain from the bid being leaked?
2. Why would Liverpool have put a bid in the day before a crucial game with still 2 games of the season to go & no transfers possible?
3. Would this bid have been made if it was not going to be leaked as there would have been absolutely no point whatsoever in making it?
4. Would the Liverpool Echo back the Liverpool version of events or the Villa version… please bear in mind that their readership is in Liverpool a large chunk of whom no doubt support Liverpool & keep their paper in business?
I don’t know the answers but surely even the most diehard Liverpool supporter can see how it must look to us down here?
Another thing which seems to be missing from the above statements is that the quoted price for Barry… 18m is the same price paid for 2 other players whom he is currently keeping out of the England team.. Hargreaves & the other guy who went from Spurs to Man u (cannot think of his name at this moment). Yes they are a touch younger but then Barry is AHEAD of them so surely that creates parity? He has too worn the captains armband briefly for England & Is the current Villa captain so to say he is worth any less simply does’nt wash.
Finally i think you’ll find most Villa fans are well aware that Liverpool are obviously ahead of us at the moment with Champions League etc but you are not as far ahead as many on here appear to think you are. Villa are most definately on the up …. with or without Gareth Barry!
villa Si - July 5th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Villa and Liverpool fans are both all p*** with this saga now.
GB was until recently an idol at villa park the way he acted on and off the pitch. Until he slagged off the manager who re-started his England career as MON promised he would.
at the end of the day our owner doesnt need the money(if you’d seen the number of 40m+ private jets he owns you know that!
if someone comes in for Gerrard or Torres are you going to sell him at market value???
are you hell, they are key players so you want to be made an offer too good to refuse.
Pay up or buy someone you can afford!
as has been said before, Carson 10 m….. too much so we backed off, writings on the wall, Our club has ambition now and big backing so we have to stand up for ourselves, which the big 4 wont like, pay up or shut up!!!
josh - July 5th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Martin oneil has been so childish in this transfer any 1 of villa players would leave if arsenal man u or chealsea come in for them because villa are not good enough to keep them.villa will be gutted wen barry leaves he sets most goals up and socres alot, anyway cant wait to see him in the red shirt nxt season
dibbler - July 5th, 2008 at 9:33 am
In my opinion i would try everything in the book to keep alonso, he is a big big player for us he gives the team balance. I know he did not have the best of seasons last year but he was injured and took a bit of time to get back to full fitness. And as for barry he is a good player and would be a good addition to the side but we need to accept they want 18 mil so the best thing to do is put your final price in and leave it with them to decide if they want to accept the offer or not. By critising each other in the press just makes every one involved dig in harder because no-one wants to lose face. Rafa just leave the offer with them its for them to decide if they want to keep a player who does not want to play for them, i thik its called cutting your nose off to spite your face.
DANCEOFTHESHAMEN - July 5th, 2008 at 9:50 am

It’s very clear ‘Pool don’t have the money needed to compete. They are looking behind the settee to see if they can scrape enough together to buy Barry, then what? ‘Pool are certainly entertaining but it’s got nothing to do with football. It’s clear to fans and players, ‘Pool are out of it. A team that was ‘once ‘great and had the respect of fans. Note the term ‘once’. There’s lots of noise but not much action. If you were a world class player, would you really want to go to a club that makes such a public laughing stock of itself? Everton fans must be having the time of their lives taking the piss. Move over ‘Pool, Villa are coming through.

It is also the just about the same difference between Villa and Middlesboro. Think about that you thick bastards before you open your ugly slack brummie gobs.
The bookies who normally don’t get things wrong have Liverpool at 13/2 to win the premiership. They won’t win it but you can back them each way to finish in the top 4.
What about ‘on the up’ Villa? 200/1! 200 to fucking 1!!!!!
What a fucking joke you sad brummie bastards are. Totally fucking delusional.
thejoker - July 5th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
I can just see it now….. barry signs for liverpool 18 million, breaks leg in away game to villa from a superb laursen tackle, liverpool dont make champions league & villa qualify for champions league through uefa cup win. Im off down the bookies for my odds!!
L.F.C - July 5th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
All you Villa pricks need to learn that L.F.C don,t need Barry we have Alonso who’s way better then barry. Barry isn’t a world-class player and so not worth £18mil the guy hasn’t even played champions league football and he’s about 28yrs old.
Mick id love to be your little gay bitch bring it on big boy - July 5th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Best thing about it is our shite one man team could still sell their
best player and you still couldnt get within ten points of us.
Theres nothing hard to take about being the european and premiership champions you thick cunt.
Are you old enough to remember that far back to when your team was capable of that?
How old are Rushie,Whelan and co?
dee - July 5th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
I see the educational reforms of the nineteenth century didn’t get as far as Liverpool. Never mind, I can just about understand what is being said. Apparently, Liverpool don’t need Barry and Barry isn’t good enough to play for ‘Pool. Now if you can pass that on to your manager and Stevie, ‘can I mind your car mister’ G, we can all get on with our lives. Let’s face it, ‘Pool are piss poor, on the slide and a joke. They may want players but they simply can’t afford them. I’d like lots of things I can’t afford too. It doesn’t mean I can demand they are sold to me cheaper. So in the words of many a Liverpool sweet shop owner, ‘get your snotty nose off my shop window and piss off”.
Calm Down, Calm Down - July 5th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
I have a bad feeling about this. We’ve bid 18m for Barry of money we don’t have. We are desperately trying to offload Alonso and Crouch but it looks like we’re going to end up well short of funding the barry deal. The yanks aren’t putting in any money, so we’ll have to sell another player. Worst case is that we sell Alonso and Crouch and Villa still won’t sell Barry.
Tipsy Mcstagger - July 5th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Scouse twats fuck off back home to your skips.
Bunch of pikey inbreds.
villan - July 5th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
will you lot just shut up
Matty - July 5th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
I think Benitez has gone mad. Why pay 18m for Barry and let Alonso go for a lot less? Why sell Crouch and keep Kuyt and Voronin? Why buy a defender we don’t need and a defensive midfielder we don’t need and ignore the areas of the team that cry out for strengthening. If Torres were to break a leg early season we wouldn’t even make the UEFA Cup places next season. I think we should replace Benitez. You gave us a lot of fun in the cups Rafa but now it’s time to go.
villan - July 5th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
only joking……….
Diddy - July 5th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
i have to agree with matty rafa has lost the plot he should go now before he damages us more
BIGSMUGJOHN - July 5th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
Im a Man u fan and it amuses me to see small clubs bickering about 2nd class talent
I cant imagine us ever being in a position that were fighting about players like Barry.
Thank god im not a brummie or even worse a scouser
AVFC Steamer - July 5th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Bigmugjohn so your either a cockney or even worse a cockney twat
L.F.C - July 5th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
BIGSMUGJOHN what the fuck are you talking about do you not realise that a ‘Scouser’ plays for Man U, WAYNE ROONEY is a ‘Scouser’ you twat he’s from Liverpool. And regards ‘2nd class talent Wayne Rooney isn’t exactly 1st class or world class. How many goals did he score last season I bet I could go count the number of goals he scored on my hands. That’s what I call 2nd class .
BIGSMUGJOHN - July 5th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
L.F.C what does that stand for (liverpools fulla cunts)
Rooney came from Everton so that is slightly easier to forgive and even more so when you see him celebrating goals against you.I agree hes not world class but who is from that part of the world.
I bet you can count how many goals he scored on your toes,12 you fuckin inbred.
villa for life - July 5th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
O’neil is the well out of order . Barry has been completely loyal to us for over 10 years, and he gets treated like this… it is amazing… this is why the football players out there should screw the clubs for as much money as possible and treat them like crap, ~(just as ronaldo is doin). i really rate barry as a player but so what if we lose him, life goes on. i would rather have the 15mill then a pissed off player??? O’neil is being bang out of order to a player we should have given respect to, liverfools can have him and stick him on the bench if they like. i just feel that if barry wants to go so much just let him… we should swap with alonso.
john is a big mug - July 5th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Im a liverpool fan and it amuses me to see small clubs bickering about a dick called ronaldo.
I cant imagine us ever being in a position that were fighting about a player who obviously doesn’t want to play for us.
Thank god im not a Mancunian or a glory hunter
john is a big mug - July 5th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
matty and diddy maybe you should start supporting chelsea as you both seem like glory hunters. rafa needs our support. lets not forget without rafa we would never had got torres.

little clubs bickering
well well well
The two biggest clubs in the world by far ,are at war over the best player in the world.
The little clubs are having handbags about mr barry
adam - July 5th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
BigJohn,
You are an offensive tosser. Im amazed your comments have been graced with the privilige of being publicised on this website.
Barry is worth 10 million max. Benitez is doing you a favour offering 15 and I can guarentee that if even if a man of the calibre of O’Neil, who doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as you, , -tells LFC to stick the money, they will still finish above AV.
In which case I would love nothing more than to see you stuck with a player everybody knows would rather be playing real football with a real football club who has realised that despite being the only player capable of giving AV any hope for the last ten years, is end up going to be sold for 2 million after running his contract down.
If LFC walk away now, who will be worse off? Alonso, Mascherano, Gerrad, Lucas…?
Aston Villa is quality club and deserves better than you .
Be Realistic - July 5th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Gareth is not a World class player (yet)so he cannot be worth 18million
pounds & the reason why he is not yet world class is bcoz he’s an Aston
Villa player & will most probably never play Champions league football
during his career if he stays with Villa.
So,he understood that he should leave Villa to reach top class level which he deserves to become. O’Neil is becoming much of an obstacle to Barry’s attempting in becoming a world class player which will infact be beneficila to the England team
Rushback - July 5th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Villa Bob said “Villa have a chairman with true wealth & can afford to say no”
Really? where are all these £25m players then?
As usual, Villa fans believe every word their chairman tells them. Doug Ellis made a pretty penny from the Aston based club and so too will Bendy Learner.
Cheese!
VillaDan - July 5th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
I agree with Rushback here, us Villa fans always believe what we are told, we’ve never spent over TEN MILLION even for a player, Even Portsmouth and Westham spend more money than us, It makes me MAD!!!!
Goonerbebad - July 5th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Arsenal will win the league this season, Chelscum are shite and MUnichted are washed up without Ronaldo….
whattheheckisamancdoinghere - July 6th, 2008 at 5:34 am
call it a squabble or an argument between Liverpool and Aston Villa fans but what the hell is a manc who knows nothing but glory-hunting (well said john is a big mug) muttering sheer rubbish when passionate football fans are having a heated discussion? i think the only thing mancs are better off doing is sticking a pacifier into the ungrateful mouth of their superstar (only for a season before he’s off to RM) and hope he stays with angry old daddy.
i feel this discussion has been blown out of all proportions and the only winners are the sensationalists who claim to be dignified journalists. call me biased to be a Liverpool fan, but i have agree with jebote that it’s a simple choice of whether or not Villa fans feel Barry should be sold at 15mil. whether who leaked the information to the press is quite irrelevant since nobody takes the press seriously nowadays. i’m sure Barry knows in his heart that Liverpool (and Stevie G for that matter) want him at Anfield and it is no secret where his ambition will take him to. i think Martin O’ Neill is only pissed cos’ Rafa initially offered a part exchange deal involving pennant, riise and another player and he probably felt he wasn’t respected enough.
Let us examine and scrutinize the situation here. Why did Rafa have to offer players instead of cash? The fact is simple - the yanks are miserly asses who are squeezing the pockets of Rafa’s transfer allowance and being a manager who genuinely cares for the club, he had to think of alternative means to meet the demands of Villa. Who wouldn’t agree that had Rafa offered 15mil cold hard cash in the first place, Martin O’ Neill would perhaps have been pacified and not cried foul as if it were the end of the world and destroyed the morale of his team captain?
So please, Villa fans. Don’t accuse Rafa of being the vindictive one here. If you have no wish of selling Barry for 15 mill, I’m sure Liverpool fans and Rafa alike will respect that decision and not resort to secret discussions about wages (like chelski did with ashley cole) with your captain only wants to experience a different type of football.
on a conciliatory note, it pleases me to say we really care about our clubs. unlike a certain other club who feels money is everything and another who is more in love with glory than the club.
L.F.C - July 6th, 2008 at 10:48 am
I would just like to remind BIGSMUGJOHN that Man U are not one of the most succesful clubs in the world as Liverpool have won the Champions League, Priemer League and F.A Cup more times than them. Until Man U have win those cups more times than us they will not be the one of the most successful/best clubs in the world!!!
john is a big mug - July 6th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
little clubs bickering
well well well
The two biggest clubs in the world by far ,are at war over the best player in the world#(???? i’ll give it to you mug boy he’s good, but lets be honest the guy has no loyalty, and really doesn’t want to play for united anymore. maybe he just wants to play for a BIG CLUB NOW).
The little clubs are having handbags about mr barry, (If by little you mean a team that has won more trophies than mkan united then mate united don’t even register).
oh BIGSMUGJOHN how i will laugh when the winker says goodbye and all you mancs cry your little eyes out…..
LFC - July 6th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
Your all wankers
tramps and the city of c**ts - July 7th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
“BIG CLUB NOW” what like real madrid. Barry gets 10 % of the signing fee and brighton get 15 % thats 25% of any fee going away from villa, with abit of maths £18 million becomes £13.5 million, if we was to accept £15 million then we would only collect £11.25 million. Thats why Villa are not to bothered about Barry working his contract out and why L Pool are being made to look like the twats they are, if you get him its for 18 million, villa win, if you dont you look like idiots. UTV
starstarstar - July 8th, 2008 at 10:18 am
LFC got NO NEED to pay that much for Barry ok…just can say that this signing is totally not a good deal. We already have Mascherano Alonso Lucas and Gerrard. They are all better than Barry. Just think about that…do LFC really need to pay that much for an already 27 years old midfielder??? Now the problem is that LFC now need a striker and winger or midfield? Crouch is heading off, and they go to bid Barry. Voronin is not good enough… Kuyt is playing at the flanks now… So a striker or a midfielder is more imortant for LFC now? There will be no objection if they sign a young talent at midfield role, but look at Barry, who knows that his best form can last long to when???
Bill Vector - July 8th, 2008 at 10:34 am
These Villa fans are a bit shitty aren’t they?
