Arsenal to bid £18m for ‘amazing’ player: Would be a great signing!
by Mr Comfort on July 6th, 2008Arsene Wenger gets ready to splash the cash and looks keen on this lethal finisher as Arsenal prepare for life without Adebayor.
Arsenal are ready to launch an £18million bid for Dutch goal ace Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is lining up the prolific Ajax striker as a replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor — if the £30m-rated Togo hitman is sold to Barcelona.
The double deal would net the Gunners a £12m profit.
A Dutch insider revealed: “Arsenal are keen on Huntelaar and he has confirmed he would be keen to discuss a move.
“Klaas-Jan is an out and out goalscorer – just the sort Arsenal have needed for many seasons.
“He might not have the silky skills you associate with a Wenger team but he has an amazing knack for putting the ball in the net.”
Adebayor is a £30m target for Spanish giants Barcelona, who are also eyeing Gunners team-mate Alexander Hleb. (News of the World)
Whilst the Dutch insider quoted above may feel that Klaas doesn’t exactly fit the pre-requisite of an Arsenal man I would say that to me the Ajax man seems to be a perfect fit for the north London club. Wenger is keen to find a lethal finisher, Eduardo is a fantastic player but is of course on the road to recovery after being mauled by a Birmingham City thug, therefore Huntelaar could well be the kind of striker the Gunners really need. Could he play alongside the Cro-zillian? It could well be a fantastic partnership and if they can sign the 24 year old with the cash from a potential Adebayor sale and still have cash left then that makes real business sense. Do Arsenal fans feel this Dutch international has what it takes to be a 20 goal a season man in the Premier League?

Wenger needs to spend, if we have the money then get some class signings. Huntelaar and Nasri would be enough for the summer
Nathan - July 6th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
How about Huntelaar and Eduardo as a frontline partnership for the Gunners next season, now that would be mouth watering!
Yusuf - July 6th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Wenger needs to spend but huntelaar wound definally not be worth the money he would be another adebayor or bendtner plus he couldnt even make it in da holland squad getting him is pointless if we get a striker he should be another eduardo or if not benzema

im liking the sound of a eduardo/huntelaar partnership
LEON - July 6th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
wenger is not interested in selling ade and i hope he styaes with we can score wiyh long balls and his power bring a different dynamic rather just playing along the ground,in his first seaseon i think scord 10 12 goals and started in jan and in last seaseon he csord 30 goals he can still get better i hopes stayes is still just24

I think Vela is going to be the real surprise package this year, that could be wishful thinking on my behalf.
goonerC - July 6th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
If we are going to sign a striker i would only want villa or santa cruz because i don’t think huntelaar is as good as van persie also with vela, eduardo, bendtner, walcott can all play up front we are strong in that area. we should be focusing on a cb and a defensive midfielder.
lovs2spooge - July 6th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
gooner c is spot on. Richard Dunne or dare i say Anton Ferdinand. As much as i admire his work ethic and his seemingly ignorance of criticism,Senderos just doesn’t cut it.
Ibro Gooner - July 6th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Huntelaar is a great player. He can score from set-pieces and with his head form long balls (take note LEON)… I agree that Villa or Santa Cruz would be wonderful but with Villa about to sign a new contract… Yaya Toure for DM and Marchena for CB anyone?
Gunner #1 - July 6th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Huntelaar alongside RVP would be pure Klass (sorry, couldn’t resist) adding Huntelaar to our team would be like, eerrmm… think back to 2002, it would be like the Brazilian national team, with Van Nistelrooy (in the best period of his career) up front. We have the team that plays beautiful football, we need an ice-cold front man, like Eduardo, with less silkyness about him. Fuck the long ball option that Ade-”pay off”, sorry bayor gives us. I hate the long ball, teams should be fined for doing it. Okay it is part-and-parcal of the game, but it can still go and suck my left testicle. Villa would be a good option, but he will cost us an arm and a leg, Huntelaar’s record, speaks for itself. I don’t need to praise it enough, the question mark is, would he survive in the Prem? Yes he would, because his goals are from being in the right place at the right time, not by dribbling five million yards, nutmegging the crowd and his dog and then rolling the ball into an empty net. His goals are about collecting the ball, or running onto it and putting it past a despairing goalie, who no matter what, can’t reach or react quick enough to make the save. He is Nistelrooy MkII. He is quicker than Nistelrooy, and can score outside of the box with the odd screamer, or rocket propelled nike ball. And the price? You can’t complain about £18 m for him. 20 goals a season in his first season, 35 in his next, or, well if he is provided with as many chances as Ade was, 70 is what he would be capable of.

god i hope this is true i’ve seen this guy play quite alot and he reminds alot of van nistelroy and we all know how well he did in england

With the amount of chances our team creat id doesn’t matter who we get in…..our midfield will make any striker look good….
jebote - July 6th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
you know what i dont think arsenal needs a new striker. adebayor will stay as i dont think that what is reported is true about he wants to leave.
and you are all forgetting about eduardo da silva. he will certainly be like a new signing for you guys once he regains strength and confidence in his broken leg.

Yusuf, the fact that Huntelaar hasn’t been given a starting position in the Dutch squad means he’s not good enough? Nice logic. Van Nistelrooy has proven himself already on international level, has more experience than KJH, it’s only logical he get’s favored. If you make Huntelaar main man, you couldn’t select Ruud, he’s not the type to be benched, mental aspect.. The guy’s useless if he’s a permanent sub, same with Seedorf for example.
Btw, KJH is nothing like Bendtner or Adebayor, he scores more consistently and nearly always performs when it matters, in the big games and that’s what Arsenal really needs.. A finisher. He is a finisher, probably one of the most clinical ones you’ll ever see.

Nathan what about van persie forgetting someone important aren’t we?
Anaconda - July 7th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Every one is talking about strikers and midfielders…what about our defence which let us down so badly last season..we scored enough goals but conceded far too many…( conceded more than Liverpool, man u and Chelsea)..Not good enough if we want to mount a sustained challenge for the prem and champions league…..
me thinks we should stop relying on senderos to come in whenever Toure or Gallas is injured….Senderos is too error prone .and Song is way too short for central defence..he’s better off in defensive midfield …and I’m not so sure about Djorou either ..we need a big, mean son of a bitch defender who takes no prisoners to challenge for a place with toure and gallas…we also need cover for Clichy as Traore is not quite ready yet…i think he’s a decent left sided midfielder but not that good as left back..
gunner-2008 - July 7th, 2008 at 4:32 pm

alan B'stard M P - July 7th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
forget him. He says he wants to play for Man U. He likes them apparently
aNaKiN99 - July 7th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
Huntelaar seams to be more interested to go to old trafford… and looks like the mercenary Adebayor is staying if recent reports are to be believed…
So I dont think Huntelaar will come to the emirates (though i badly want to see him play for arsenal rather than he playin for manu)… hope he doesnt go to manu either… and stays at ajax… if adebayor stays ….;)
and if ade leaves then huntelaar comin in place of ade will be awesome… cos wenger wont get any striker if ade stays…. considerin his recent reports of selling players every season and getting cheaper n younger talent in their place just to wipe out the debt tat we have…
