Liverpool set to complete crucial £4m signing: Very useful addition!

According to this player’s agent Rafa is very close to securing a much needed addition to the Liverpool squad.

The agent of Diego Cavalieri has claimed the Palmeiras goalkeeper is close to joining Liverpool.
The Brazilian shot-stopper, 26, has made over 100 appearances for Palmeiras since beginning his professional career in 2002.
It now appears he could be on his way to the Premier League with Rafa Benitez looking to bring in cover for Jose Reina.
According to Cavalieri’s representative Juninho Parmigiani, the player is to travel to England this weekend to finalise the deal.
Juninho told gazetaesportiva.net: “Palmeiras’ board released Diego to negotiate with Liverpool and we are going to fly in to finalise the last details.
“We still cannot say that everything is closed because there are some things between Liverpool and Palmeiras and other details in the contract.
“I believe everything is going to be resolved this weekend.
“If everything goes as it was agreed, he is going to sign the contract.” (Skysports)

Strength in depth is a much used term and it’s very true that in today’s game a squad should be jam packed with talent to cope with the increasing demands caused by the likelihood of a 50-60 game season. Charles Itandje didn’t inspire confidence from his back four and whilst he was not solely to blame for the embarrassing displays he was in goal for, Luton, Havant & Waterlooville and Barnsley, he sure as hell had some part to play in them! Diego Cavalieri seems to be a more stable customer and will provide crucial cover for the excellent Pepe Reina and more importantly does so at a relatively cheap outlay (rumoured to be in the 3-4 bracket). If Rafa manages to offload Scott Carson that should provide ample cash to cover the signing of this Brazilian. Do Liverpool fans think that Benitez should give Carson a shot?
