Fantastic £16m Liverpool midfielder might not be leaving after all: Transfer fee foils move for additional funds!

Just when you thought Rafa Benitez was becoming a bit more generous with his transfer fee’s, he comes right back at us to remind those who were thinking he might be going soft that he’s still the same tightfisted boss.

Football365 is reporting that after much discussion with Juventus over a deal for Xabi Alonso, it looks like the Spanish midfielder is going to be staying at the Liverpool, after the Italian club made it clear that they wouldn’t be paying the current transfer fee.

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso’s switch to Juventus could be off as the Italian giants are unwilling to pay £16m for him. (Football 365)

Much like the negotiations between Pompey and Liverpool over Peter Crouch, these talks don’t appear to be ending anytime soon. With the Italian club unwilling to budge on their most recent offer, and Rafa Benitez unwilling to move on his £16m valuation, it appears we have ourselves another classic stalemate!

I’m sure Rafa would love to sell Xabi to Juve for the right price. But based on his current ability, I’m sure he’d be more than happy to bring him back for another season, than move him to the Italian club for a discounted rate.

Are Liverpool supporters fine with Rafa holding out for the entire £16m? How much do you think Alonso is really worth on the open market?
