Chelsea prepared to let five players walk out the door this summer: Time to clear out the dead wood!

When new Chelsea boss Big Phil Scolari talked about bringing his own brand of football to Stamford Bridge this season, nobody actually expected that meant he was going to clear out most of the Mourinho era in in one summer, did they? Well apparently that seems to be the case.

Scolari will allow Andriy Shevchenko, Florent Malouda, Claudio Pizarro, Steve Sidwell and Carlo Cudicini to leave Chelsea. (Daily Mirror)

Talk about cleaning house! Pizarro, Cudicini and Sidwell saw the pitch as much as you or I would at a Championship club; Malouda and Shevchenko never lived up to their expectations, so all in all, this seems like a fairly smart move. Clearning out the dead wood should allow the club to recoup some of the funds and go after a rumoured player like Kaka. Plus, I’m sure there isn’t a single Chelsea supporter out there that will miss the current lot when they depart.

Are Chelsea supporters shocked to see Scolari letting so many players go this summer?
