Is Arsenal’s Alex Hleb a Tottenham fan?
by Dexter on July 8th, 2008 The Sun reports that Alex Hleb has delivered yet another volley of abuse at Arsenal, the Belorussian seems to have a huge amount of disgust for the Gunners, so much so that he is starting to sound like a Spurs fan.
Hleb uncorked a bottle of his finest abuse and poured it over the heads of Arsene Wenger and Cesc Fabregas, saying:
“My view of how I should be playing didn’t coincide with the manager’s.
“I told him last season I wanted to leave and think he was quite upset about it.
“But ask him. It may turn out he’s happy to see me go.
“I don’t know where I’ll be next season but I’d prefer Barcelona.
“It is being negotiated and, hopefully, will be decided soon.” (The Sun)
And to add the finishing touches to this rant, Hleb topped the whole thing off with an attack on Fabregas, saying:
“When we get scoring opportunities, Fabregas is much more selfish than me.
“Given a chance to shoot, he always goes for it — unlike me.” (The Sun)
Alex Hleb and Arsenal, is this going to be the most acrimonious goodbye in Gunners history?

Darren - July 8th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Amusing piece, Hleb certainly hasn’t endeared himself to Arsenal fans and the sooner he leaves the better and i would be happy if he took Adebayor with him!
Messiah - July 8th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Wow, who’d want a player with a mouth like him, i’m a United fan and even I think he’s harsh, one of Arsenals biggest flaws was trying to walk the ball in the net, it’s about time someone was selfish!
Dazwhite - July 8th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Yeh, like what he is doing, keep it up Hleb.

no-one is a tottenham fan. messiah is right, its about time someone learnt to shoot at arsenal, now it turns out he is a gobshite, which all he has in common with tottenham fans.

Here’s the sun exclusive without the editing
In life, everything changes. I believe that there are ten top clubs in world football, and when a couple of clubs are interested in you and offer better terms, I believe that others would have done exactly the same,” Hleb explained to http://www.tut.by.
“But Arsenal is dear to me, I am grateful to Wenger for everything he has done for me.
“As an Arsenal player, I can say that there is no better club in the English Premiership.
“I am very grateful to Arsène Wenger. He is the best coach in my career. And not just a coach. He is a very good man and intuitive psychologist. I very much appreciate his support.
“I talked to him twice before the end of the season. It is also not that easy for me to leave this club, because it has become my home. I think he is upset, though it is better to ask him, maybe he is glad.
“Cesc [Fabregas] and I understand each other very well on the field. And it is very, very pleasurable for me to play with him. He’s a very pleasant guy both in life and as a footballer. He is just more egoistic in goal-scoring opportunities, if he had a chance to score, he always used it, unlike me.”
He also set the record straight regarding the alleged ‘tapping up’ incident with Inter.
“There was nothing like that, everything is not so bleak… It’s all rubbish, people made up some ice cream story,” he explained.
“Really, I only gave away tickets, as the son of my agent Nikolai Shpilevski came to the match, I passed on tickets for him through these people.
“They were not Inter representatives. I have spoken to Wenger about this numerous times. We have a normal relationship.”
Does he have a problem with London? “No, I really liked London. It’s a very old city, there are a lot of attractions. You can do something new every day and there is always somewhere to go at night.
“The fans are very friendly.”
Of the speculation that he would warm the bench if he moved to Barcelona, he replied: “When I went to Stuttgart, everyone was saying that I won’t be playing there. This was the same when I went to Arsenal. But I seem to be playing! I’m confident in my strengths.”

Sinking ship? God this sounds familiar. “Top four next year” spuds were out in force last summer and laughing when Henry left. Last season we finished 4 points (one win against Man U) away from the title. Do I need to remind anybody where Spurs finished? Never mind the fact that they literally didn’t break into the top 10 all year.
What a load of rubbish. And yes, the Hleb story is typical tabloids eager to make a sensation out of nothing. Similar to the Wenger comments… SELLING CLUB, SELLING CLUB
when all Wenger did was say what our strategy has been since he got in… buy cheap, sell right after their peak (see Henry, Overmars, Viera transfers)

JJ - July 8th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
So Arsenal don’t have to make up an extra £24 mil a year to pay off debts caused by the new stadium?
That’s not a dig, i’ve just heard it banded around by lots of people and don’t know whether he’s actually said it or if it’s just tabloid nonsense.
If it’s even remotely true then Arsenal can’t expect to compete at all with Utd and Chelsea for transfers or wages (see Flamini transfer)

Most acrimonious split? - that semi skilled, over inflated twit needs to go some way before he measures close to Ashley TWAT
POOR SPUDS - July 8th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Tats t Typical looser’s psychology shown by t Spuds… they call arsenal names like sinking ship n stuff and arsenal finish time n again in the top 4…. while they promise big things like toppling arsenal from t top 4 in beginnin of every season but finally end up way behind arsenal… in fact after they finished 11th last season i thought tat the spuds wud atleast learn some shame and humility… Guess I was expectin too much from them…
Nyways… t spuds can call us wat they want… cos they’re famous for shootin at their own foot by talkin big n never delivering… now the next post i get wud be a yid reminding us of t 5-1 milk cup spud victory… and then ther wil be posts like we’ll beat u n stuff…
Pathetic…. SPUDS….
Grow UP retards!!!

Yeah it would be a disaster if we were more than 30 points off the pace having spent a kings ransom on a tip top striker to go with a ‘backbone’ of the best young english talent. Theres no way back from that scenario, only a return to the second division. The glory days are like the spuds kit, all in black and white.

Greg - July 8th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
JJ-
£24m a year for the stadium is the case, I believe. HOWEVER, its not as if all this money has to come from the transfer market. In fact, Forbes just ranked Arsenal as the UK’s RICHEST club. We aren’t saddled with hundreds of millions of debt like CSKA Chelsea and ManUre. Our matchday revenue is the highest in the country at £3m. The idea that we have to sell players to stay afloat is a myth.
The idea that we are somehow financially in trouble simply isn’t the case. We posted record profits for 2007, are one of the world’s most competitive clubs on and off the pitch , without turning to some sketchy foreign owner (a’la Thaksin and Abramovich, who have used millions they embellzed from their own people to pay for football stars) .
Not to mention the fact that Wenger has rarely spent big in the transfer market and still managed to win plenty of trophies. Even if he had £100m, people who follow him can tell you that he wouldn’t use it!

Hey biz
If were a sinking ship based on tabloid stories misinterpreting our players’ interviews, what does that make your lot after the events below:
-browning your shorts (literally) when a win would have guranteed Champions League football at our expense in May 06;
-spending so much money trying to catch us but failing to break into the top 10 last year;
-spending £16m on Darren Bent when he’s not even a quarter of the player Henry was when we sold him for the same price.
Given the above, I’d much rather be a sinking ship than a soiled shorts wearing, spending nilly willy dreamers who talk loud but never deliver!
Funny - July 8th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
The ironic thing here is the only ones saying spurs will finish top 4 is you gooners. My long standing experience of arsenal fans is they can dish it out, band about insults and witty names but when it happens to them they get aggressive and defensive and cant take it.
Will you slip out of the top 4? Probably not, but the longer these kinds of stories emerge the more it looks like all is not rosy at arsenal as some of you would have the rest of us believe.
As for spurs? Berbs/Keane, im fairly confident they will both stay. We will get silly money for them if they go because we have a chairman who knows what he is doing and signs players up on long contracts…! With modric, dos santos, bentley (who you guys could really do with at the moment) and a dominant midfielder, we will have a team to threaten, most arsenal fans I know admit that.
Gomes
Hutton - King - Woodgate - Bale
Bentley - Modric - DM - Dos Santos
Keane - Berbs
Thats a pretty solid team, any of that 11 who leave for whatever reason, we’ll get ample money to replace them.
Yeh we might not break top 4 this season, but eventually one of you 4 will slip and one of us waiting in the wings will take the chance and it might not be so easy for you to get back in. Just dont get too cocky, could blow up in your face.
G-reg - July 8th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Well, at least nobody can accuse Spurs fans of being glory hunters. You need a team capable of winning things first! Unless you count the Mickey Mouse (Carling) Cup as a trophy.
biz - July 8th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
sorry i didn’t mean that to be honest you should all laugh at us! berba-toff is leaving and to be honest I can see us going down next year, we really don’t play the same football arsenal do, and i’m ashamed I admit!
UP THE ARSENAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its purely because he wants to go to a team who wins medals.
you lot have droped from being ‘contenders’ to just being one of the ‘top 4′.
but basically you havent won anything since the FA Cup in 2005. even your neighbours chelsea and spurs have silverware to show.
a footballer who comes 3rd and 4th is quickly forgotten. The ones who win medals are the one who are remembered.

Spurs are one of the richest and most followed teams in europe and we’re not even that good. I’d say it’s you pikey ar5enal1 fans who are soiling your pants because when spurs reach their potential which under Ramos they will, then you lot aren’t gonna have a clue how to handle it. 5-1 to the tottenham 5-1 to the tottenham

Scorpion - July 8th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Again here come the Gooners’ children with their whistling in the graveyard responses. Don’t know about other Spurs fans but I rarely troll around reading Arsenal sites because frankly my dear I don’t give a damn what they’re doing. Either these people have no lives or are trying to big up their team by bragging how they have finished above us in the league for umpteen years. However, as I have pointed out ad nauseum: trophy count Spurs 1 Gooners 0 and 5-1, 5-1, 5-1.
As far as this idiot player is concerned it is just another case of a player trying to get his own way. I’m sick of these guys who sign contracts and then find a greener grass on the other side of the road. If Platini and his ilk truly want to make a difference in the game, they would make it illegal for a player to even discuss leaving a club he is under contract to. There should be NO speculation if Renaldo, Berbatov et al are leaving their clubs because THEY ARE UNDER CONTRACT. Change the rules boys. And get rid or reduce the agents control of OUR game.
SOL CAMPBELL - July 8th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
I dont believe this article as no player would ever slag of Arsene if they knew him. I was a boy before i met this French saviour, but he allowed me to blossom into a man…he is very close to his young players& is a genius, sort of like a football version of Michael Jackson. When I felt low he would let me stay with him& got me through the bad times…thank you Arsene, thank you.

And I know you’re probably 12 years old but ask someone other than your parents to teach you how to conduct yourself because they are obviously not doing a very good job.
Man United - July 8th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Spurs are total shit and Arsenal are evenly matched. There is only one team that everyone loves and that is the glorious Manchester United, most succesful team in England and Europe. Chelsea are crap as well.
Yids suck ass
Scorpion - July 8th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
And ManU fans who read other teams sites and go nah nah are childish. When Giggs and Scholes and Sir Red Nose retire and Renaldo leaves for a better team and you are left counting on Carrick to keep you in the top 4, then drop in and tell us how you feel. Nani is a punk and most of your other recent signings are crap.
