Liverpool confirm shock move for £3m Brazilian player: Look who’s headed for the door!

Well this is a move that’s sure to shock many. With Liverpool currently preparing to splash the cash for Villa man, Gareth Barry, the club also seems to have been doing some behind-the-scenes work to finalise a transfer on a fairly solid Brazilian.

CNN International is reporting that Rafa Benitez is prepared to name a new back-up keeper for Pepe Reina after giving Charles Itandje the go-ahead to move this summer.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez was expecting to complete the $5.9 million (£3m) signing of goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri from Brazilian club Palmeiras soon.

The player completed a medical on Tuesday and has acquired a work permit. His agent Juninho Parmigiani said: “We will conclude everything soon.”

Palmeiras’ sporting director, Toninho Cecilio added: ” There are some clauses still being discussed but nothing that can block the deal.”

Liverpool plan to sell their French goalkeeper Charles Itandje to Galatasaray for $3.9 million..

Cavalieri will be the reserve keeper as Jose Reina maintains the starting spot and it seems likely that England international Scott Carson will leave Anfield. (CNN International)

With Scott Carson currently sitting on the sidelines awaiting a new team, the move for the Palmeiras man doesn’t seem like such a bad move. What might have many people scratching their heads could be the fact that Rafa Benitez doesn’t currently have anyone lined up to take Carson on loan for next season. Stoke City has made their intentions known that they would take Carson for the season, but so far they can’t seem to find the funds for the loan fee. With the season drawing near, the goateed-one better hope he can find a home for Carson soon.

Are Liverpool supporters pleased with the move for Cavalieri? Should the club have kept the £3m and used it on someone else?
