Arsenal plan astounding £43m trio bid: TWO Good, ONE Average!

The Sunday papers are as always brim filled to bursting with rumours that may or may not have a solid basis in fact, according to these sources Arsene Wenger is planning one hell of a spending spree!

Arsenal are lining up a £10m bid for Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins if Emmanuel Adebayor leaves the club to join AC Milan. (Sunday Express)

Countered by claims that…

OBAFEMI MARTINS is staying at Newcastle — after Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insisted he is not interested in him.
Amid renewed speculation linking Martins with the Gunners, the Sunday Sun understands Wenger has discreetly informed United officials he has no plans to move for the Nigerian striker. (Sunday Sun)

Arsenal could be ready to hijack Liverpool’s move to sign Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry with the two clubs still to agree a price. Arsene Wenger has been keeping a close eye on the situation and reportedly made his interest known in the England star in midweek, with Gunners officials said to have contacted Villa to find out the latest position. If he misses out on the England midfielder, then Wenger is likely to make another attempt to persuade Pompey to sell Croatian midfielder Kranjcar for around £15m.(Sunday Express)

Gareth Barry and Niko Kranjcar would both be very useful additions, neatly filling holes left by Mathieu Flamini and Alexander Hleb (who looks destined to leave), however Obafemi Martins move to Emirates would make less sense to me and I would be very surprised if such a deal would ever take place. Whilst the Nigerian striker is by no means a bad player he surely is not up to the standard desired by Wenger hence the likely validity of the source above claiming that any move for the Newcastle man is more than likely a product of a over zealous agent or journo. Having finally sewn up the Nasri deal Gunners fans no doubt eagerly await more new additions especially as the likes of Adebayor, Hleb and Gilberto appear to be heading for a summer exit. Who out of this trio do Arsenal fans most want to see Arsene sign?
